  1. Hmmm... Thursday evening decision, and Friday + Saturday is their weekend. IF the CBI has the lower denoms in stock (they just might, since I would NOT expect any announcements if they did, especially if an RV is the plan) and their other ducks are in a row ... The lack of lower denom news is therefore GOOD news? Peace and Prosperity, and trying NOT to dwell on this!
  2. 21.86 IQD = $1 means 1 IQD = 4.57 cents. An RV for sure, but hardly an impressive one. If they meant to say the reverse (1 IQD = $21.86), then all the above comments apply - pure malarchy. Peace and Prosperity - NOW dammit!
  3. First; this article is a year old, so who knows where they are really at right now. Second: too much is being read into the word "redenominated". Especially considering the translation process. Until the event happens one way or the other, we cannot know if it is going to be an RV or not, and the Iraqi official releases are going to be worded very carefully, expecially if an RV is intended. IF the new denominations are truly ready, then they can pull the trigger whenever the other requirements fall into place. An important hurtle has been crossed. Obviously, no significant action either way is possible without the availability of the new notes. Peace and Prosperity.
  4. OK, so like everything else that looks like good news for the Iraqis and us, it is just TALK at this point. No money has been distributed, and who knows if or when it will be. If there ever is a significant distribution, I wonder if the CBI will want to RV immediately so the people will benefit even more by having IQD in hand, or will the CBI RV beforehand or enough later to get those dinar changed into dollars first? The CBI can afford a higher RV if the "people" hold very little IQD, but if the RV happens near the first distribution but when the people don't see much of a benefit, there could be rioting. I think the CBI needs to get a modest amount of IQD into Iraqi hands so they will rejoice at an RV, but not so much that it limits how high the new value can be (obviously IMO). Eh, I think I will have passed on from old age before anything great happens with the Dinar. Peace and Prosperity and Positive thinking.
  5. For the heck of it I'll share my initial reaction. Conference call for Investors, or Scam Targets? Give me your money so I can turn it into big profits for a great return for you. Sounds like those guys who got busted last year using the RV rumors to bilk. Not saying it won't RV, but since there is no way to PROVE it will (and they sure can't this is their intention), we are all hoping the RUMORS and fairly logical CONJECTURES are true. The best reason I have for it not being a LOP is that the benefit to the Iraqis and GOI would not offset the cost of redenominating. The main benefit would be, IMO, the new currency being more counterfit proof. Just making the numbers smaller for convenience sake doesn't cut it. Peace and Prosperity
  6. I hate to admit it, but I've read the last two lines more than five times and I don't get it, unless she was suggesting the plants were *** is the joke. If its about the bees, it doesn't make any sense. Peace and Prosperity
  7. Old article! Saleh is no longer with the CBI and has not been since his arrest. Sorry, but Bondlady is making assumptions about current policy based on an old press release. I'm not saying Iraq is going to LOP. Even though a big RV will be an historic anomaly, I think Iraq will be shooting themselves in the foot if they do not RV to at least $0.1, and hopefully closer to a buck. I believe a significant amount of dinar have been removed from circulation, and their currency and gold reserves and natural resources will justify a decent RV and be approved by the IMF and World Bank. Peace and Prosperity, really effing soon
  8. Hey Bundy, nice spoof on the guru warp to RV-late any and all news! Made me go "WTF" for a sec before I realized what you were up to.:lol:src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif"> Peace, Prosperity, and not taking the hype too seriously.
  9. This logic is impeccable, and worthy of attention at the national level. I have always agreed that "gun control" means "hitting what you're aiming at.":lol:src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif"> If we become a nation in which only the government forces and the criminals are armed, we are truly screwed. Our right to vote could be ruled unconstitutional, and we would be powerless to do anything about it. Peace, Prosperity, and Pass the Ammunition!
  10. Hey DontLop, if your guess is correct, the CBI HAS $100 billion in reserves if you count Dollars AND GOLD!! Plus, if "Delete the 3 zeros" referred to getting the big IQD notes out of circulation, the auctions have done a superb job. There have certainly been good arguments in favor of certain laws and no temporary ministers being key, BUT, maybe all the CBI REALLY needs are for the LOWER DENOMS TO ARRIVE!? I haven't seen any reliable reports that the printing is done. Speculating about big money is sooo much fun.:Psrc="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif"> Peace and Prosperity
  11. This is the first time I am aware of the head of the CBI (past or present) stating plainly that the IQD is being restructured to reflect the resources wealth of the country. I find this very significant. The country's wealth would be inconsequential if the plan was to simply redenominate (LOP). I think Turki just said they will definitely RV. He did not say anything about how big the initial reset of value will be, but if this was a legitimate translation, he HAS taken LOP off the table. :lol:src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif"> Peace and Prosperity
  12. I "plussed" you to offset that dirty Dog's neg. Peace and Prosperity
  13. I like the idea of bringing back the returnable deposit. I would take this concept a step further and make return deposits mandatory on all consumables packaged in recyclable materials. This could reduce the trash being tossed willy nilly, and what is tossed is more likely to be picked up by someone who needs the money. The material can then be picked up from the stores and recycled so it does not end up in the landfills, and reduces our dependence on oil a little more. When it comes to getting the general public to change their behavior, hey, cash is king! Peace, and a very Prosperous New Year!!!
  14. I believe Maliki's people at the CBI acted corruptly, and he is using their actions against Shabibi. Classic corruption tactic: break the law and then blame the righteous whistleblower (have been reading that Shabibi has tried to oust Maliki's guys) for the crimes. I also believe Maliki is trying every trick he can think of to become the new Dictator of Iraq. His actions against the opposition speak for themselves. Peace, Prosperity, and a Maliki-free Iraq
  15. This article smacks of the TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTH! Maliki needs to be tried for corruption and subversion of their constitution! Peace, Justice and Prosperity
  16. If the reserves go bye-bye, so does any chance for an RV. To make matters worse, the US doubtless helped Maliki steal the election because Alawi scared them more! I am extremely concerned for our investment right now! Peace, prosperity and WTF!!
  17. Pretty darn broad definition of what constitutes a "conspiracy theory" as far as I'm concerned. Peace and Prosperity Pretty darn broad definition of what constitutes a "conspiracy theory" as far as I'm concerned. Peace and Prosperity
  18. Have not gone to the link, but wanted to share 2 thoughts: Pumpers and traders constantly trying to sell dinar or "post RV services" deserve to be prosecuted IMO, I do NOT believe the federal prosecutors have the inside scoop on what Shabbibi is going to do. I'm not sure the claim that this cannot be smoke and mirrors is accurate, because a legal action of this sort really should not be possible until AFTER the event DOESN'T HAPPEN AS ADVERTISED! How can you convict someone of lying about what will happen until it has finally happened differently?? Also, it is not technically a scam when people predict incorrectly if they BELIEVE what they are saying. However, faking "intel" to make money IS a scam and those should be held accountable. Peace and Prosperity
  19. My feelings on this won't be a surprise, however... DOMA is a law designed to legalize a form of discrimination, mostly for religious reasons. That does make it unconstitutional on two grounds. BUT - I fully agree that due process of law is NOT being followed, and even though I am not an Obama hater, the presidential scope of authority is getting way out of hand. I feel DOMA should go, but it needs to be done the correct, and legal way. Peace, Prosperity and the Sanctity of Due Process
  20. Actually, the energy for the Big Bang (if there was one) had to come from somewhere. God had to come from somewhere. Absolutely nothing "just is and always has been". Studying the process of creation does not preclude involvement of a deity, but it does assume that the biblical account is a metaphor the ancients would understand and accept. But even the Big Bang Theory has no answer I am aware of for where the initial singularity came from. The universe may be cyclical, expanding, contracting, re-exploding - but I hate that idea because I really need a beginning that is finite. Yet, no matter what we find is an earlier state of all that is, IT had to come from somewhere. It makes my brain hurt! As far as discounting Creationism, I'm afraid the evidence is against it, but the study of science can easily be accepted as an investigation into the details of how God made the universe so it will function without constant, conscious manipulation to keep it going. Even if we finally find the smallest building blocks of all matter/energy, and know what their properties are, we will NOT understand WHY those properties exist and work as they do. Science will NEVER be able to prove that there is no God. Just improve our understanding of His work. I see no real need to make faith and science complete opposites, but I understand why fundamentalists really have to believe that they are. I try to accept this, but in truth that way of thinking (believing) is so foreign to me that I struggle, as I don't really understand it. I guess all I can say is we much each be true to ourselves, and accept that each "truth" is different (but this goes against my scientific framework of one truth for all). Peace, Prosperity and Tolerance
  21. A) The very statement of mine you quoted makes it clear I do NOT suggest falsification, but rather make it obvious that you don't understand what I am saying, but just lashing out at my negative view of this research. This study came out of a Texas university. Do you really think they did not have a personal agenda, expecting to find that kids of same sex marriages were somehow worse off? Really? Do you think this team would have received funding and approval for their project otherwise? I'm just saying that this kind of scientific bias is VERY common amongst researchers in general, so we all need to be very wary of so-called proofs of this or that without looking hard at the protocols, and the researchers themselves. This study is NOT proof, but it does raise an issue that merits further, unbiased, study. Peace, Prosperity, and Good Science
  22. "better known as the Homosexual Classrooms Act" Better known by whom? If this act is as overwhelmingly liberal as these guys suggest, why are the the "Lone Voice" opposing it so strongly?? I see this as just another basic anti-same sex ax to grind, "Don't even think of forcing our children to respect human rights more than we do!", bigoted, right wing crap. Now, I am not saying we don't need to bring back discipline to our classrooms, and reward excellence to instill a desire to do well in school and provide a proper learning environment. I remember the bullying and kids that were different having a miserable school experience, so I am completely in favor of anything that helps remove that cancer from our schools. I did give a flip what your personal religious beliefs are - shunning and tormenting kids that don't fit your definition of "normal" is just plain wrong to the point of being EVIL. Do those of you who oppose this Act truly want to go on record as supporting evil? Peace, Prosperity, and Tolerance.
  23. I'm afraid this study will fall under the general, and well populated, category of "Bad Science" for one simple reason: the researchers went into this "expecting" and hoping for the kind of "results" they got. I am NOT suggesting falsification, but rather the effect this has on "good faith" interpretation of the data. There is a lot of this kind of "inappropriate" investigation out there simply because we are human. So, what I am saying is that the researchers went into this study with bias, and by definition that makes it bad science. Good science is a study that just wants to see if there really is a difference, and if so, what it is. If you really hope and expect a specific result, you almost always think you found it. Studies on new drugs are fraught with this problem. There are loads of racist studies that "prove" the inferiority of non-whatever races. Another issue I have with this study is that it definitely may not have measured what they intended to. Namely, even if kids from same-sex families have more issues, they were probably caused by how others (classmates, teachers) treated them! NOT the actual home environment. Imagine some of the teasing and worse they could have endured (by kids of Good Christian parents?) for example. That's gotta leave a mark! Just saying, as a person with a very strong scientific background, be wary of any study that expects a result and then finds it. Peace, prosperity, and respect for ALL human rights, including the right to pursue happiness.
  24. wpsmit: I did say "a little". I did not mean to imply a Vatican endorsement of contraception would come anywhere close to reducing our population growth the amount it needs to. cris: Where did I say in which part of the world the main population growth issues exist? By the way, China is huge, but has a ONE CHILD law, remember? They are not the problem. Also - if the US population is not a problem, why are we running low on fresh water and electricity? Modern agricultural methods are part of the water issue, but public consumption must also be a factor. Critics keep pointing out the amount of unpopulated land we have, but ignore that it is empty DUE TO LACK OF RESOURCES and lousy climate! I am apalled by this display of head in the sand animosity directed at those who just want to save us from ourselves before it is too late. We really need to get the U.N. on board, although I bet they are, but have not been able to come up with anything both reasonable and effective. Also - how is any of this "Elitist"? Should the people who are not having more than 2 kids stop altogether to make up for the folks having 4 or more? Chances are this is all a mute point, because I feel we are poised for another global pandemic, and that will be all she wrote. If there is an elite wishing to wipe out most of us, all they need is a private vaccine for something deadly and highly communicable. Not all the fancy conspiracy methods floating about. Peace, Prosperity, and natural immunity
  25. It seems clear to me that y'all just don't get it. Saving the environment is much more important than saving jobs. We as individuals are just temporary residents, and should be much more focused on taking a stewardship role regarding Mother Earth. Seeking maximum profit instead is destroying our world. Overpopulation is also destroying our world. Improved infant mortality should indeed reduce the number of new births. I have no idea how to get the impoverished and famine struck masses to stop having more babies they can't feed. It would help a little if the Pope would reverse the Vatican's stand on contraception. We are awash in babies the world cannot support in any kind of natural, sustainable way. If the only way you can cope with this is to consider me a misanthrope, then the problem is with you, not me! I simply try to keep my focus more long-term, and feel that we as a species need to be willing to make sacrifices in order to keep the Earth a place we can live and share with the rest of Nature. The "People and money come first" attitude is destroying our home, so who is harming humanity more?? I do not suggest we start killing off the poor (I recently received an email about the "Great Culling", which I think is BS), but we DO need to stop them from breeding like rabbits. Not for genetic reasons (besides, I don't but the idea that they are poor because of "inferior" genes, but more likely substandard education), but to stem our runaway population growth. I still believe that, like all other industries, as Green technology becomes more popular, new advances will mitigate the negative aspects so the overall impact will be much more positive. Capitalism should actually make going green easier and cheaper with time. Peace and Prosperity
