  1. The Constitution should never have been used to define the rights of people, the Bill of Rights was the best thing for that. What the Constitution should have been used for was to put severe limits on government.
  2. I enjoy reading your posts. Its good to hear from someone who is there and has their finger on the pulse. I'd like to know (AC) do you have an account in Iraq and if you do what bank do you use.
  3. When GE gets a contract and then installs the generating equipment they will be paid. They will not have anything to do with running it or collecting revenue. The problem is a political one. If that ever gets solved you will see things start to move.
  4. If its true do any of those guys (in the Iraqi govt) mean what they say or say what they mean or even know what they are talking about? No offence intended to the guy who posted this.
  5. Every democracy fails and they fail for the same reasons. That is, once people realise they can vote for programs paid for from the public treasury it increases to the point were the government bankrupts itself. A case in point is the present administration voting for social programs with seemingly no understanding of how they are going to be paid for. Witness the size of the debt and the country we are in debt to is of all places China. Has anyone asked themselves what is going to happen when China calls us on that debt. It will come when they realise that the US is effectively bankrupt. All this has taken place over approximately the last 100 years and it has come about because of government that has gone out of control. It has gone out of control because it has rejected the constraints of the Constitution. What a lot of people don't realise is that the Constitution was written to control the government and to stop it from overstepping those bounds the founding fathers created the most elaborate set of checks and balances that they could think of. Unfortunately the founding fathers had suspicions from the beginning that it wouldn't last. Someone asked at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 "Do we have a republic or a monarchy?" "A republic if you can keep it" responded Benjamin Franklin For any who are interested here is more on that subject: http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2000/cr020200.htm
  6. Excellent post, you've certainly done your homework. I hope your right about the timeframe. I'm still not sure about the deletion or lopping of zeroes from the currency though. It could still mean a complete change in currency and replace 25000 notes with 25. Lets hope this thing finishes one way or another soon. Again, great post, Thanks
  7. Great job Scooter. Try not to let them get under your skin. They wouldn't talk like that to your face. As far as I'm concerned they are nothing more than a skin irritation.
  8. Opinions are worthless including yours. The only thing worth a d*mn on this and any other site is verifiable information. Just My Humble Opinion
  9. Great post, thanks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!
  10. "Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah" Fadlallah, bet you hundred IQD you can't say that a hundred times fast. LOL Unfortunately the situation in the middle east needs someone from this country who knows how to use Teddy Roosevelts "big stick". Again unfortunately there is no one from this administration who even has a big stick and even if they did they would just as likely use it on themselves in a very painfull and embarrassing way. Oh I'm sorry they already have used it on themselves in just that way in front of the king of Saudi Arabia no less.
  11. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. These people are practically iving from hand to mouth. I don't understand why you think thats going to change much even after it RV's. The only thing these people have going for them is future jobs created by foreign investment brought in by oil.
  12. "You can't believe we are standing still on this" What he H did you expect from an administration that would bow to the king of Saudi Arabia. I don't think that JB did anything to help the situation except to show them how helpless the leaders of the US really are at this point. My analysis of this is that this govt of ours will do nothing but dither and in the end when the situation in Iraq goes completely to sh*t they will do nothing but wring their hands. For those of you who know a little history this is Jimmy Carters second term.
  13. Thanks for the post, My interpretation of this thing is that the outgoing government had a vested interest in keeping things as they were. In other words they did not want a free market economy because of the fact they were skimming if not outright looting because of their positions. Hopefully with the change in leadership that will stop or at least lessen to the extent that we will see an end to this ride. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely," -Lord Acton
  14. Thanks frank, My interpretation of this thing is that the outgoing government had a vested interest in keeping things as they were. 15. Very interesting and sobering but it still leaves a lot of questions unaswered. Like: Is there any incentive for the powers that be in Iraq to do anything to move their economy forward?
  16. What this means for the US is higher prices for everything that comes from China. Which means just about everything we buy.
  17. Great post, thanks Scooter. Change is inevitable - except from a vending machine. ~Robert C. Gallagher
  18. This is a great post. Not being cynical but I always thought these translations needed a translation. Again, great post. Thanks.
  19. I believe this is a descendant of the British parlimentary system. Like Britain the prime minister has most of the power and is selected from the party or coalition of parties which get the most seats. I think they are still jockeying to get this sorted out. But unlike Britain there is a president but unlike America the president is not elected and has very little power. Try not to confuse their system with the American one.
  20. Anyone's guess when this is going to happen is as good as anyone elses, I guess!!!!!!! Jim M
  21. Bashing the basher, heck I call that fair. As far as this post is concerned it is the best I have seen so far in laying out the history of this thing. Kudo's to you and thank you so much. 22. Excellent post. I too believe we are real close. The only thing that worries me is if instability in Iraq boils over. Lets hope and pray it all comes together soon..
  23. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but criticism of an opinion usually tells more about the critic. Instead of this try to come up with something original of your own. If you can't well you already know my opinion on that. Jim M
  24. As I keep saying, believe it when you can exchange it and see it in your bank account.
