  2. http://en.aswataliraq.info/?p=134437 INA rejects postponement of parliament, calls for urgent session July 13, 2010 - 12:40:33 BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The National Alliance rejects the postponement of the parliament’s session and calls for holding an urgent session, official spokesman of Hamam Hamoudi, a leading figure of the INA, said on Tuesday. “The INA is holding now a session of its members at the parliament and will hold a press conference after the meeting,” Abbas al-Aameri told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The INA calls for holding an urgent parliament’s session and rejects the postponement of the coming parliament’s session,” he underlined. Heads of political blocs have agreed to postpone the parliament’s session scheduled for today (July 13) for two weeks, the Temporary Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Foad Maasom, announced yesterday. “Leaders of political blocs will meanwhile continue their meetings until they agree on what should happen during the session, two weeks from now,” Maasom said in a press conference in Baghdad attended by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He noted that according to the constitution, lawmakers attending the session should select the parliament’s permanent speaker, his two deputies, and the president of Iraq. Iyad Allawi’s list won 91 seats in the 325-member parliament, compared to 89 for al-Maliki’s alliance. The National Iraqi Alliance came third with 70 seats. Political tension followed the election results. Both Allawi and al-Maliki are competing to head the future government. Allawi insists he has the right to form a new government because his bloc won the highest number of seats. Meanwhile, al-Maliki says he has the largest bloc in the parliament with 159 deputies, after forming the National Alliance with the Ammar al-Hakim’s Iraqi National List. That total, however, is still four seats short of a majority SH (S)
