Senate Moves To Allow Military To Intern Americans Without Trial 1402565016 705d95495b

The Senate is set to vote on a bill next week that would define the whole of the United States as a “battlefield” and allow the U.S. Military to arrest American citizens in their own back yard without charge or trial.

“The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this president—and every future president — the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world. The power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even within the United States itself,” writes Chris Anders of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office.

Under the ‘worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial’ provision of S.1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which is set to be up for a vote on the Senate floor Monday, the legislation will “basically say in law for the first time that the homeland is part of the battlefield,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who supports the bill.

The bill was drafted in secret by Senators Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.), before being passed in a closed-door committee meeting without any kind of hearing. The language appears in sections 1031 and 1032 of the NDAA bill.

“I would also point out that these provisions raise serious questions as to who we are as a society and what our Constitution seeks to protect,” Colorado Senator Mark Udall said in a speech last week. One section of these provisions, section 1031, would be interpreted as allowing the military to capture and indefinitely detain American citizens on U.S. soil. Section 1031 essentially repeals the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 by authorizing the U.S. military to perform law enforcement functions on American soil. That alone should alarm my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, but there are other problems with these provisions that must be resolved.”

This means Americans could be declared domestic terrorists and thrown in a military brig with no recourse whatsoever. Given that the Department of Homeland Security has characterized behavior such as buying gold, owning guns, using a watch or binoculars, donating to charity, using the telephone or email to find information, using cash, and all manner of mundane behaviors as potential indicators of domestic terrorism, such a provision would be wide open to abuse.

“American citizens and people picked up on American or Canadian or British streets being sent to military prisons indefinitely without even being charged with a crime. Really? Does anyone think this is a good idea? And why now?” asks Anders.

The ACLU is urging citizens to call their Senator and demand that the Udall Amendment be added to the bill, a change that would at least act as a check to prevent Americans being snatched off the streets without some form of Congressional oversight.

We have been warning for over a decade that Americans would become the target of laws supposedly aimed at terrorists and enemy combatants. Alex Jones personally documented how U.S. troops were being trained to arrest U.S. citizens in the event of martial law during urban warfare training drills back in the 90′s. Under the the National Defense Authorization Act bill, no declaration of martial law is necessary since Americans would now be subject to the same treatment as suspected insurgents in places like Afghanistan and Iraq.

If you thought that the executive assassination of American citizens abroad was bad enough, now similar powers will be extended to the “homeland,” in other words, your town, your community, your back yard.

Sometimes the ACLU does something good in spite of itself.

This is one of those rare times.

This has nothing to do with the false illusion of left/right politics, and everything to do with being controlled by the political "elite". They are trying to establish an American Monarchy through political association.

Already you have a very limited chance of a successful political career unless you graduate from only a handful of "approved" universities with establishment connections. All with extreme left agenda's.

There are even degreed majors for government bureaucratic careers.

If you love what freedoms you have left, if you ever want a chance to help put this nation back on individuals rights course, then it may behoove you to join in on voicing your opposition to this bill.

Thanks for the reply.

What my point is is that now the definition for "domestic terrorist" is being greatly expanded, it can be used to describe almost anyone.

While using strict interpretations the new bill may seem benign, when has our government EVER used restraint when exercising authority over anyone? (sitting politicians excluded)

For years constitutionalists have been screaming about the FEMA camps, for years the National Guard and Navy had help wanted ads for prison guards for the FEMA sites, the only thing they have been missing are the inmates.

This new bill will allow Americans to be detained without probable cause when taken with the new description of potential terrorist.

Let's see, I'm a vet, Christian, own a company, and don't like obama, that makes me FOUR categories a potential threat according to homeland security.

After 8 years of Bush BS, and 3 of Obummer lies, I honestly do not trust this government to do ANYTHING for my best interest unless it is for the governments best interest first.

Looks like one more move to martial law.

In many ways this is much worse than Martial Law. They can engage it secretly and selectively to remove anyone they fear is an enemy of the state. Right now, as of this moment in time, about half of our population, or more, is considered a potential enemy of this Administration, and to some a potential enemy of the State.

This is really the most important law, or protection of all of our protections. Without a law protecting us from our own Government and Military, who is there left to protect us. This is clearly a move that is being pushed because they KNOW something most of us don't.

They know that all that is occurring in the backfield, with the previous pilfering of our treasure over a long period of time, and the inability of the leaders to keep hiding it, that many of the current administration will become very unpopular.

Our current Admin is doing all it can to cause as much civil unrest as possible, it's all very useful politically when you have no strength or position to fight with... you fight dirty and you use any tactic without shame. There will be a lot of accusing of Republicans, blah, blah, but not word about taking responsibility for mistakes or naming names, much less solutions.

Because this current Admin is fairly lawless, and certainly have little or no respect for our Constitutional rights, it is no surprise that they are making this move now with the current Narcissist and Chief... the one man wrecking crew, in office.

This MUST be stopped immediately and whoever suggested it should be immediately ruined politically and every other way. It's treasonous in spirit and I'm am not going to tolerate any more of this lying and two-faced crap from these criminals, Democrat and Republican.

This is not for our safety. Just give us our da__ guns and we'll handle things here in the U.S. We don't need a bunch of old fools with visions of grandeur and power taking over our lives like Stalin. I will be first on their list because I totally disagree with most of what they are doing to us, rather than working for us.

If we are a government of the people and for the people, this cannot stand. If it does, then we are not.
