The Central Bank of Iraq has announced their plans to redenominate the Iraqi Dinar to ease cash transactions. By the end of 2010, they intend to drop three zeros from the nominal value of bank notes. It should be noted that the actual value of the dinar will remain unchanged. That means that 1,000 IQD (pre-redenomination) and 1 dinar (post-redenomination) will both be worth the same amount in US Dollars. As stated by the Central Bank of Iraq, their mandate is to "ensure domestic price stability and foster a stable competitive market based financial system." BAGHDAD, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Iraq expects to redenominate its dinar currency by knocking three zeros off the nominal value of bank notes to facilitate currency transactions, a central bank official said on Thursday.

Emerging from years of war and sanctions, Iraq is trying to revamp its economy and boost oil production with a raft of crude deals that may vault it to one of the world's top oil producers.

'The goal is to improve the payment and receiving system in the country and consequently to reform cash management,' said Mudher Kasim, a senior advisor at the central bank.

Iraqi payment systems rely almost exclusively on cash.

Kasim said that the central bank expected to start rolling out new notes by the end of the year or the beginning of 2011. Iraq has 25 trillion dinars in circulation, officials say.

An Iraqi cabinet committee ordered the change in 2007, but the central bank did not think it appropriate until recently, Kasim said. The dinar's value will remain unchanged, he said.

The local unit is managed through foreign exchange auctions, and traded hands at 1,170 per dollar at the last sale.

If value is the same (25k right now and the new 25) then why is everybody is posting RV's.... Can somebody explain that? Thanks, CIS

i think what bothers me most about medic's info is the "no more dinar sales in the us"...i'm used to him being "wrong", but my common sense tells me that even after the IQD rv's (if it ever does), you'll still be able to buy dinar in the US, just at a higher price...why would you no longer be able to buy it? i realize a lot of places that used to exchange it have stopped, but you can still get it online right? whatever!

They may have to stop selling them until they can get the smaller denominations. Rumor has it that the larger denominations will be pulled out of circulation, so, if all of the seller's only have the larger denominations they may not be allowed to sell them after the mysterios RV. (just a thought)

In order for the 25 dinar note to be equal to the 25k note it has to revalue. The 25k notes will be gone by the end of the year.

25 times the old exchange rate just doesn't work. The exchange rate has to change to make the math work.

Good afternoon guys and gals. I'm new to this forum but, have followed the dinars conversation over the last six years. One thing I would like to share with everybody throughout my listening and waiting is "Don't listen to Medic" it is well documented in other forums" But everybody does has their on opinion and I respect him for that..

I would recommend taken a page out of my book about when the RV will happen "One day we will wake up from a great night sleep and turn on the TV and hear that Iraqi has just RV" and then you will know the truth. Good luck to everybody in this investment. "listen to yourself and only trust your eye's"
