Dinar Info from a Contractor in Iraq

I have to say it is very RARE to get this type of info. from any other dinar sites. So many people sharing first hand information, not putting a negative spin on it. Just one more reason DV is the best dinar site out there. Thanks to everyone, especially those who are currently in Iraq or who have been there in the past for sharing what they know or what they have experienced. :)

i will tell you how i got my dinar home i was deployed to iraq from feb 09 to feb 10 i bought my dinar from the finance office and the rate was 1170 so it has not changed. when we re-deployed and went through all the customs there were signs everywhere saying that you can not travel with money over 10,000 usd my dinar was not equal to 10,000 usd so the customs people looked at it and it went right back into my back pack. i took it on the plane and it was always with me no issues what so ever!

i would also like to put my input in on the dinar I would love to see the dinar RV and i believe it will one day but if it does not i look at it like this, i never bought more than i could afford, it never put me into finacial hardship, and if it never happens atleast when my daughter gets old enough she will have something to take to school with her for show and tell something her daddy brought home for her when he was in iraq. the point is i already spent the money i would have blew that in vegas anyways so if it happens it happens if it dont it dont i dont stress about it

I agree with your following comments:

"and if it never happens atleast when my daughter gets old enough she will have something to take to school with her for show and tell "

"i would have blew that in vegas anyways so if it happens it happens if it dont it dont i dont stress about it"

My children are all grown but my grand children will take it for show and tell.

and yes, if it happens it happens just like CMKX. Not complaing like CMKX SH.

Cheers and have a happy Easter....

What do you think of Longfellow's latest post?

I personally think he is just flat out lying, but would like your take on it!

[snipped}

Dan

Dan,

Thanks for your confidence in my opinion. After reading that thread I have a couple of thoughts:

1. I don't know Longfellow from Adam, so I can't personally vouch for his credibility one way or the other.

2. The other posters in that thread make some interesting observations about his post. Their insights cover everything I might have added (sourcing, credibility, grammar, pumping, etc.). I won't attempt to summarize beyond that, as you've probably read the thread anyway.

3. I don't have any inside info that might discredit his position. I also don't have anything to support it.

4. Posts are most relevant to me when the info in them is verifiable. I'm not calling anyone a liar, but until I can call someone or see hard evidence on a website, speculation just doesn't offer me any warm fuzzies.

If I have the chance today, I may ask my Iraqi friend if he has any additional info about it. If I hear anything earth shattering, I'll post about it later today (it's morning here in Iraq).

Happy Monday!

I too am here in Iraq, in aviation and have been since 2004

I have hand carried 17 million in my back pack a few mil at a time with no incident till June 2006

When I was detained at the security in Kuwait international and they took 3 million dinar from me detained me for 6 hours and fined me 380 KD for smuggling

I didn’t get a receipt and signed no paperwork so it is my belief that I just got robbed instead

So I just went to London and got bombed for a week (I feel much better now)

And the Iraqi's here all believe that it will lop and rv to Kuwait levels but no one knows when

Semper Fi

Now if they just take your money, its plain daylight robbery.

Update on my observations about large bills (10,000 and 25,000) here in Iraq:

While visiting finance today (waiting on a colleague with a Dinar purchase), I watched as a Turkish vendor, from the group of shops I mentioned in the original post, collected his payment for all the Eagle Cash transactions for the past month. Eagle Cash, as I referred to in the OP is a debit card system that services here take as payment for whatever it is you are purchasing (from a haircut to a crystal tea set and everything in between). It is accepted EVERYWHERE on base. At any rate, the merchants have one Eagle Cash machine and share it amongst themselves. The sales they make via Eagle Cash are then paid out periodically from Army finance, IN IQD. The merchants divide the payment accordingly amongst themselves. Since the Turkish merchants don't want IQD, they exchange with the Iraqi merchants (in the same complex) for US$ at a rate benefiting the Iraqis (more than the international rate per $).

Here's the point. This particular transaction involved two 7-8" stacks of 25k notes and a stack the same size of 10k notes. The merchant collecting the payment had an escort out of the building. All (most) of these notes will be redeemed for US$ with the Iraqi merchants, go home to their families, and out into the Iraqi economy. If the Iraqi government is attempting to remove the higher denomination bills from circulation, Army finance and the Eagle Cash system are certainly NOT contributing to that effort. I'm not criticizing here, just observing.

I know there are some who say there are no large bills in circulation. While the stack of bills I saw was HUGE to me, in comparison to the entire economy, I know it was small. I also know that the same type of transaction goes on regularly on most (if not all) of the military installations in this country where Iraqis and Third Country Nationals have businesses servicing the troops/contractors there.

Bottom line for me is this. I still wonder how an RV can happen when these merchants will become instant millionaires overnight. Those big bills are out there, folks, and they're going to have an impact locally if the currency takes a big jump. Don't get me wrong, I sure hope it does.

Happy Wed from Iraq!

Thanks for the update gbosh! Appreciate the "BOG" observations. The continued distribution & presence of big bills is concerning. Does this scenario lend itself more to the dreaded "L" word? What do y'all make of that? :) <<<<Just a "noob"
