Iraq signs a document to join the Statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice

Today, Thursday, Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani signed Iraq’s accession document to the statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice.
The ministry stated in a statement received by Mawazine News that “the Minister of Justice met during his visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.”
The statement added, "During his visit to the organization's headquarters in Jeddah, Shwani signed the Republic of Iraq's accession to the statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice, which is considered one of the organization's judicial bodies."
During the meeting, Shawani stressed, "The position of the government headed by Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani in dealing with issues that concern the Islamic world, foremost of which is its position on the aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and Iraq's endeavor to consolidate relations between the members of the organization in a way that serves the reality of the Islamic world."
He touched on "the government's achievements and efforts in achieving economic development and its role in achieving economic, political and security stability."
For his part, the Secretary-General expressed his "happiness with this visit and this important role for Iraq because it represents an influential civilizational and Islamic interface in all issues
and fields of concern to the nation."
He pointed out, "His annual report will include the achievements of the Iraqi government in the economic and development fields, the development in all fields, and its efforts and positions towards the issues of the Islamic nation."
The statement explained, "The importance of Iraq's ratification of the statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice was discussed in settling legal disputes amicably or through arbitration bodies affiliated with the court, in a way that enhances the achievement of justice and does not hinder efforts to achieve development."
He stated, "The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador Muhammad Al-Saleh Taqiyeh, Director General of Political Affairs at the Organization, Ambassador Hassan Ali Hassan, Director of Legal Affairs at the Organization and the Permanent Representative of Iraq to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Muhammad Samir Al-Naqshbandi, Consul General and Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation."
