The Minister of Finance stressed during the meeting, "The completion of the automation project will contribute to the development of customs departments and improve their performance, through the adoption of a single window, modernization of collection systems and the provision of a sober database, which in turn will achieve effective management as well as achieve financial sustainability and diversification of the economy in accordance with the principles of integrity, transparency and anti-corruption," adding that "the ministry seeks to transform customs departments into important sources to support the state treasury after oil revenues."

"The ministry is determined to apply the electronic customs data system (ASYCUDA) in the General Authority of Customs as a result of the efforts of continuous meetings and meetings with representatives of the technical and procedural team of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in support of the project," she said.

Finance Minister Taif Sami held an extensive meeting on Monday on the follow-up of the implementation of the stages of the automation project for the customs and tax sectors, in the presence of the Director General of the Information Technology Department in the Ministry, in addition to the assistants of the general managers of the Customs and Tax Authority.

The Minister of Finance said during the meeting, according to a statement of the ministry, that "the completion of the automation project will contribute to the development of customs departments and improve their performance, through the adoption of a single window, the modernization of collection systems and the provision of a sober database, which in turn will achieve effective management as well as achieve financial sustainability and diversification of the economy in accordance with the principles of integrity, transparency and anti-corruption."

She added that "the ministry seeks to transform customs departments into important sources to support the state treasury after oil revenues."

Finance Minister Taif Sami received, on Tuesday, the US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski.

During the meeting, the finance minister praised "the level of bilateral relations between the two countries," stressing "the importance of continuing to build on the achievements achieved and strengthen them in a way that contributes to opening wider horizons at all levels, including aspects of finance and economy," according to a statement by the Ministry of Finance.

The statement said that "the paths of the development partnership linking the two countries and the importance of its continuation and upgrading to achieve common aspirations and goals, in addition to discussing a number of financial and investment topics," the statement said.

For her part, Romanowski stressed "the continued support of the United States government for the government and people of Iraq, and its aspiration to find wider areas  of partnership and cooperation between the two countries."
