Al-Maliki: Re-election is unlikely, and the government cannot be formed without national consensus

{Political: Al Furat News} The head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, ruled out the option of re-holding the parliamentary elections that took place on the tenth of last month.

A statement from his office, which the {Euphrates News} agency received a copy of, stated that Al-Maliki "received in his office today the new British ambassador to Iraq, Mark Bryson Richardson, and during the meeting, they discussed the latest political situation and the early parliamentary elections, and the objections that resulted from the elections about the results and their impact on the current political situation." In the country".
Al-Maliki welcomed Ambassador Richardson, wishing him success in his new mission as his country's ambassador in Baghdad, stressing that Iraq has close relations with Britain in various fields.
And the head of the State of Law coalition stated, "Iraq's desire to develop its relations with the United Kingdom, and its keenness to maintain relations with the countries of the world and to provide the appropriate environment for the work of all missions in the country, reiterated its refusal to target any diplomatic mission."
He stressed that "elections are a national commitment, and their integrity is one of the ingredients for their success," noting that "there is doubt about the results and the mechanisms used by the commission, so the option of re-election is unlikely, but addressing these complaints, I think, will be the beginning of a way out of this crisis."
The head of the State of Law coalition said that "the formation of the next government cannot be without national consensus."
Al-Maliki continued, "After the election results are approved, dialogues related to the formation of the government will be launched, expressing his hope to form a government that expresses the ambitions of Iraqis and is able to provide services."
For his part, the British ambassador affirmed the British government's support for Iraq's efforts in the regional security and calm track, and its playing a supportive and consolidating role for peace and sustainable development in the region.
