Former US President Donald Trump denied reports that he had planned military action against China, describing them as "ridiculous."

This came after the "Washington Post" newspaper published excerpts from a new book written by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, in which they said that US Chief of Staff Mark Milley called his Chinese counterpart twice, to allay Beijing's fears of a sudden US strike.
"I had no intention of attacking China," Trump said in remarks live on "Newsmax" on Tuesday.

Trump assumed that with such allegations, the high-ranking US military commander was trying to get over the embarrassing situation caused by his "incompetence with the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan."

"Saying I was going to attack China is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, and everyone knows that," Trump added.
