The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday that it is pursuing with Afghan and friendly countries the rescue measures of the Iraqi embassy staff in Kabul. 

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with the responsible Afghan authorities and some friendly countries the rescue measures of the Iraqi embassy staff in Kabul, which was attacked by a terrorist," said ministry spokesman Ahmed Jamal.

A suicide bomber attacked a police compound and the Iraqi embassy in Kabul on Monday, security officials said. 

A police spokesman said that the security forces in place and conducting a battle with weapons, according to the agency 'Reuters'. 

A security source said civilians were being evacuated from the scene. Reports said he heard gunfire after the blasts. 

Photos published on social media show black smoke rising across the region.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Jamal announced Monday that the attack on the Iraqi embassy in Kabul had ended and that the attackers had been killed. 

Gamal said the two staff members who fought inside her were in good health. 

The agency said that 'the attack on the Iraqi embassy in Kabul ended after the Afghan security forces withdrew the remaining attackers during the clashes erupted after a car bomb.' 

For its part, the Afghan Interior Ministry said that 'the three attackers who clashed with security forces after the explosion were shot dead after a battle lasted about four hours'. 

The ministry said that 'only one policeman was injured in the attack and the embassy staff were evacuated safely by the security personnel, while the emergency hospital said he received two people injured in the attack.
