  • By Sunday, police captured Marvin Banks, 29, his 22-year-old girlfriend Joanie Calloway and Banks' 26-year-old brother, Curtis Banks
  • Marvin Banks and Calloway  have each been charged with two counts of capital murder. Curtis Banks has been charged as an accessory
  • It has been 30 years since a city officer was killed in the line of duty

A law enforcement official says three people have been arrested and two of them have been charged with capital murder in the fatal shootings of two Mississippi police officers during a weekend traffic stop in Hattiesburg.

Marvin Banks, 29, and 22-year-old Joanie Calloway have each been charged with two counts of capital murder, and Banks' 26-year-old brother, Curtis Banks, has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of capital murder.

Dead at their hands following a routine traffic stop, police say, were 25-year-old rookie cop Liquori Tate and decorated K9 officer Benjamin Deen, 34.

According to Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesperson Warren Strain, Marvin Banks also faced other charges.

Strain says officers arrested the three Hattiesburg residents at different locations overnight without resistance following Saturday night's fatal shooting.

According to WDAM, Marvin Banks was picked up by police around 1am early Sunday at the Northgate Inn hotel in Hattiesburg.

Hours later, around 3am, his brother Curtis was apprehended at Plantation Place apartment complex.

Reporters at the scene of Curtis Banks' arrest asked if he killed the officers.

'No sir, I didn't do it,' Banks said as he was led away by police.

Both Marvin and Curtis Banks reside close to the scene of the shootings in Hattiesburg, where each also has a history of criminal offenses including felony convictions and guns charges.

Police say a gold 2000 Cadillac Escalade was pulled over by one of the officers in an industrial area of Hattiesburg at 8:30pm.

The second officer arrived as backup when shots were fired.

The officers were discovered by Tamika Mills and Pearnell Roberts when they drove by.

Mills heard one of the officers say, 'Am I dying? I know I'm dying. Just hand me my walkie-talkie.'

'Never in my life have I experienced or seen anything like this expect on TV and to be in the midst of it, it's shocking and heartbreaking,' she told the Clarion-Ledger.

Both officers were transported from the scene of the shooting to Forrest General Hospital and the county coroner confirmed their deaths.

It's truly tragic how the Inciter in Chief gets away with causing this kind of

chaos. I pray that America refuses to respond in any other way but to pray for

those  brave souls that give there lives for our safety. Please people don't

give Obummmmmers the race wars that he clearly seems to want.

Remember when you simply ignore a fool he will eventually go away.

Wait, everyone knows it's Nixon's fault! But you have to remember Hoover and McKinley plotted all this decades ago. Or maybe it's REALLY the Easter Bunny's fault. You can't trust those rabbits!

But, seriously, having watched Mississippi Burning with Santa Fe's own, Gene Hackman, recently, the perverted attitudes and heinous acts of racism brought back tragic memories from my youth (only 70 mi. away). I thank God ever day that my parents were NOT in any way the typical white racists from the South.

Hopefully, we ALL can evolve and live in true peace as Jesus and so many other great leaders like MLK espoused! Shalom!

Just wait until the Baltimore police are acquitted or the guilty decision is reversed on appeal.  Remember that the Rodney King video that was being played on a loop for months didn't start the L.A. riots.  The cops being acquitted did.  I'm ready.

All these people shooting cops because they think its some kind of game?  Bring back lynching.  Hang them on the spot or shoot the creeps on the spot.  I am tired of people thinking that killing a cop is some kind of mark of being a hero.  Hang them high and let them sway in the breeze in my opinion.
