What is socialism? Let’s get specific
Yankees27 replied to umbertino's topic in Politics, 2nd Amendment (Gun Control)
Being a political science major in college (readCommunism, Fascism and Democracy-it's very informative re: political theory and application), I've found it amazing over my 61 yrs., that the average person does NOT understand what socialism really is (and you don't have to be a Fox Noise or ****** Limbaugh devotee'). While it's true that communism (which has never REALLY existed- the USSR, for example, was a fascist and military industrial complex) is ONE form of socialism, it is NOT, by any means the ONLY form of socialism. Democratic socialism, like the more saner societies of Northern Europe enjoy, is simply when the gov't oversees and regulates corporations and capitalism so that tragedies like the 2008 Wall St collapse and the recent Flint, MI water/environmental crisis do not occur. A simple analogy is : All communism is socialism, but all socialism is NOT communism. In the same vein: All apple trees are trees, BUT all trees are NOT apple trees. So if you're over 65 and still are sure about Bernie's or Norway's version of socialism, feel free to surrender your medicare, and tell your congressmen not to support the world's biggest socialized program sponsored by the U.S. taxpayer (I'm preparing for the "boos", friends), the U.S. military! Peace to All -

Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - A Taste Of Honey

Thanx, Umbertino! It was so great being in the throes of puberty when this album cover came out! LOL My father had a copy. My only complaint was that she "wasted" WAY too much whipped cream. A couple of cups would have been enough! Well, actually, a couple of teaspoons would have sufficed! -
Having attended grad school less than 25 miles from the birthplace of the KKK (Smyna, TN), and living 41 yrs. in the South, racism, is , unfortunately, alive and disgustingly well Obama's elections were like turning on the lights at midnight in your kitchen, and seeing those racist "cockroaches" running from the LIGHT. They were always there, just hiding in the "cracks of bigotry and racism". It's obvious that DENYING that racism does NOT exist in the U.S. is yet just another form of RACISM! Thanx, Umbertino! The TRUTH will (eventually) set all free, even the angry, FEARFUL, gun-toting ignorant ones.

As a political science major in college in the '70's, my main professor assigned a little book entitled, Report from Iron Mountain on the Possibility and Desirabity of Peace. It addressed this very concept that many of the world economies are based on war. We also have to remember Ike Eisenhower's famous remark as he handed over the keys of the White house to JFK, "I hope that we will not become a MILITARY INDUSTRIALIZED COMPLEX.' Sadly, a he was most prophetic. Thank God for this new pope, and anyone who TRULY follows the teachings of another great leader who said (way up on that mountaintop), "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God".

Wait, everyone knows it's Nixon's fault! But you have to remember Hoover and McKinley plotted all this decades ago. Or maybe it's REALLY the Easter Bunny's fault. You can't trust those rabbits! But, seriously, having watched Mississippi Burning with Santa Fe's own, Gene Hackman, recently, the perverted attitudes and heinous acts of racism brought back tragic memories from my youth (only 70 mi. away). I thank God ever day that my parents were NOT in any way the typical white racists from the South. Hopefully, we ALL can evolve and live in true peace as Jesus and so many other great leaders like MLK espoused! Shalom!
