Black Swan
How EXCITING!!!! As it has been explained to me by a Physicist on our staff, it is so elusive that it leaves BEFORE it actually arrives. I’m still trying to get my mind wrapped around the Schrodinger cat principal - a scenario with a cat in a sealed box, wherein the cat's life or death depended on the state of a subatomic particle. According to Schrödinger, the Copenhagen interpretation implies that the cat remains both alive and dead (to the universe outside the box) until the box is opened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger's_cat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SbwmooRTBI&feature=related Edited July 2, 2012 by Black Swan
cris
Scrodingers cat is a tough one to wrap my mind around as well We influence the outcome of what we percieve.....Without the perception, the outcome is unknowable.....But the interaction affects the result......errrrgh. The age old question of, Does a tree falling in the woods, make a sound, or noise, if there is no one around to hear it? A physicist would probably say yes.....But a Quantum Physicist would probably say, its unknowable because no one was there to perceive it
mrparrot
If a cat always lands on its feet, and your piece of buttered toast always falls off the table buttered side down, what would the end result be if you were to tie the piece of buttered toast to the cats back...?

Leads one on to Chaos Theory (aka butterfly effect). Small changes have big outcomes. Have you ever sat back and wrote out how many decisions in your adult life you have made to get you were you are at now? For example, to attend college or not? Which college and what subject matter? Who to marry? It's pretty amazing how few decisions it has taken you to get where you are...and if just one of those decision were made differently, your reality would be different...maybe BIG TIME different...like dead or worse, married. ha ha

Wish I had a time machine....Not to get the Butterfly Effect. Thats an extremely good movie, but it presupposes that an individuals changed future is only worse. While I dont agree that the future is immutable (boring) it seems more likely to me, that an entirely new timeline would be the result. every decision, branching off into infinite possibilities...some of those could be really good, seeing as I 'mostly' make good decisions. Probably my own sense of fun in that opinion. I've had 2 experiences that have changed my life drastically. The first, when I was 7 and died briefly, and found myself hovering over my own body, and the Doctor with 2 nurses reviving me. There are some details of this that lead me to believe that it was a true experience and not a brain induced memory. The other, was crashing into the back of a 2 ton lumber truck, face first, at 35 MPH, while riding a motorcycle. What saved me was the helmet that I wore. I had the conversation with myself, prior to getting on the bike, do I need a helmet today?....Yeah, its kind of cold out. Needless to say, I wont ride without protection....ever

cris
Lmao....All future energy problems have been solved. As long as the PTB doesnt try to keep this new power source from being released & getting out to the world. Our lives may now be in jeopardy for having witnessed this display.....thanks a lot jonjon.
