The deadlock is based on the inability of any one political faction to gain a majority. Not because they have real differences over the need for a govenment to be formed. The UN has no desire to force another election, and they don't need to force them to form a new government. They simply need to 'influence' the the political blocs to align differently to allow for one faction to have a majority. They do have the ability to make this happen and they will. Whether this will happen with the meeting on August 4th, I'm not sure....but the meeting will either conclude with the formation of a majority party or it will precipitate the formation of a majority shortly after the meeting. It basically depends on what they want the 'public' perception to be. Who knows how quickly the RV will happen, but the rollercoaster ride to turn over the government of Iraq is coming to an end...soon.

I think Mailman is correct. There is unquestionably an increase in the number and rate of negotiations going on between the various political blocs in Iraq. There hope is to have a number of solutions in place before the UN steps in. The question is whether the UN will let there progress stand and simply make the decisions necessary to 'finish the job', or will the UN place a government for them entirely because the process was not completed by the Iraqi coalitions after 4 months. Either way this particular obstical for the Iraqi people and the RV may be coming to an end soon.

Thank you for the find Chief. I think we are very close to placement of a government for the people of Iraq by the UN. Whether or not that will also lead to the rapid RV of the IQD, who knows? But that would be one more obsticle out of the way....We are inching closer to the day of the RV.

Thanks for the post...This will work in favor of the use of external entities to put a government in place for the people of Iraq. They have not resorted to violence, the political paries continue to negotiate, they have the desire to have democratic transfer of power....but the poor bastards don't know how to do it without a friendly push...probably from the UN. Keep an eye on the UN meeting on the 4th of August. Stay positive people, we are inching closer...slowly, to the day of an RV.

I'll have to get back to this with a detailed response. But let me say Phoenix and I are generally on the same page. Not this time. I see very little in this post I agree with. From what I've read from other international news sights Maliki is no where near as respected by other foreighn or Iraqi political factions as Phoenix leads you to believe...not that means anything. But I do feel that he tends to be an obstructionist and doesn't have the best of the masses as his main objective. JMHO Gotta fly!!!
