  1. I grew up in the oil patch in, of all places, southern Illinois. The guys that would check the wells(pumpers) would use a home made still to catch the flared gas and turn it into liquid. Hence know as drip gas. Did not have the lead in it to keep the motor from knocking, but they had ways to get around that. So they had free fuel to make their rounds. Old timers here that were involved in the oil patch would know this. And, yes, southern Illinois has many, many producing wells today. Just high sulfur stuff and the market is limited.
  2. We seem to be seeing a bunch of little, small steps to bring the country back to where it should be. Flared gas being used, IBAN numbers to the banks, WTO works, financial systems being upgraded, ports being updated. All of this is good.
  3. The flared gas can be separated into a pure form of natural gas with by-products of propane and butane allowing Iraq to be an exporter of both. So yet another way to add cash to the till.
  4. At least they are working on it. Gotta have all that stuff in order to be able to transfer internationally. How soon the rest of the banks catch up might be iffy, but, hey, progress is progress. To me, this is more important than a lot of other things we read here.
  5. Article just mentioned Rafidain bank, but at least it is progress toward the end goal.
  6. Sounds very interesting. Gotta have that IBAN
  7. Oh I think we have our own problems here in the states that sorta match the post. And it will not go away until the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
  8. At least they are now seeing that oil is not the cure all for the economy. Private investment is what will lead Iraq out of the hole they are in. Jobs and spending money that the government does not provide.
  9. Thank you Synopsis. Afraid there is no easy answer to these problems, but it is solvable. Will take a lot more determination from the younger crowd to make a change. Part of graduating from college should be proof that you spent at least 6 weeks in a third world country living like the natives. Maybe at that point more people would appreciate what is available here and be willing to defend it. I think you and I could start with early morning coffee and continue through dinner without any problem. Top of the evening to you.
  10. I hope you are right. I'm 71 now and have seen a shift in the thinking of many people. Most don't want the socialist doctrine, but what they do want is a good pension. I know many people that could be making more money but they work for some form of government so they can get that GOOD pension. My daughter is one of them. I live outside a small town in a large county(not that many people) and I deal with the public on a daily basis. Got friends that are good people, are conservative, intelligent, but not willing to invest in themselves and find their true potential because they are afraid of failure. Somewhere along the line the government has made these people dependent on public funding to live. Until that stops many more fall into the trap. So my experience with the people I know and deal with everyday is that the socialist government is not what they want, but they will take all the freebies they can get while the getting is good. As long as the governments keep handing out those freebies people will wake up one day in that socialist government. I'm just glad I'm on my way out and not just coming into this world.
  11. On the joking side - hopefully You got a chuckle out of all that! It is amazing how much money our government has spent trying to fix problems without looking at the root cause. We have herded a lot of people into public housing that seems to escalate those same problems. People have forgotten about the pride in a job well done. Now it is a give me thing. No one seems to strive to do their best anymore. Most won't take responsibility for their own mistakes. As for Canada, I have several customers that winter here and you should hear them complain about the taxes being spent for the refugees. 30 years ago I would not have minded the cold, but today I have acclimated to the warmer life and will meet the Canadians in San Pedro at Crazy Canucks bar. You are invited DAVIS just bring money.
