  1. Maybe it worked for them for thousands of years...when they had nothing better to do than stargaze and keep an eye on the sheep. Guess one learned the art of smalltalk to fine detail. We will most likely have these problems until some of the young folks that can remember US troops in a better light begin to grow up and take control, another 20 years. These old goats still think like the Ottomans. Ick!
  2. Thanks for this juicy bit of information! WOW. "Financial Detachment" is not something that easily comes to mind when one things of the armed services...but that's what old age does for you. Really enjoyed seeing this article!
  3. I should drag my husband here to talk to you, Bane. He too, has a comic book addiction.
  4. Well...right now they're doing good to command their particular patch of sand, much less an empire. That part of the world has witnessed some of the most profound civilizations in history, along with the continent of Africa. These days...not so much. Change on a global scale moves slowly, but it DOES move...and their glory days will return, as surely as our own will recede into the past. I just hope to snag a bounty from the turbulence in between!
  5. I would be turning all my 25K notes in, and exchanging them for smaller denoms, like 50's or 25's...maybe 100's. I wouldn't keep any 25K notes. Wonder how much Ali would charge to exchange my large bills for bunches of smaller ones... I definitely think it would be worth hanging on to some of them for the future. How many I have yet to decide.
  6. I don't suppose you would happen to have a link...or maybe even a scanned copy of the article showing the banner and maybe the date? This is the kind of gossip I mean to spread around...
  7. What? You can go online to various dealers and see pictures of ALL the denoms...not just the ones that DT sells. I'm not surprised they are selling in sets. Numismatic dealers the world over are probably slobbering over them even now...
  8. I wonder if Ali would be willing to "make change" for us in the event of an RV. If it starts off pretty low, I might just cash a little to pay off some bills, and keep an eye on it to see when to cash in the rest. It would be cool if I could bring the remainder of my 25K bills and have Ali swap them for smaller denoms (for a reasonable fee, of course), although I might prefer shipping the currency home instead of riding around with it. As always...a lot depends on the amount.
  9. Please forgive the totally noob question...but I read that these funds don't allow U.S. investors. What...are we the monsters, now?
  10. You know...this has been asked several times, and nobody is answering it. It's a valid question, which would clarify the situation 100%...but nobody is saying.
  11. "...Ahmed Rikabi the banking crocodile in Karrada..." At least we have some comic relief to keep us all from blowing our stacks entirely!
  12. Please forgive my totally Noob questions. I'm thinking one day I'll look at this website and see all kinds of blaring headlines, large letters, bold and italicized writing...the online equivalent of a celebratory party, or a worried, huddled mass. I don't know what to expect next, when I look at the currency sites. Will it simply be changed to 800 Dinars to the dollar...and then we wait some more? Maybe in a month or so, it goes to 250 Dinars to the dollar...and then we wait again? Will the exchange rate jump around, within hours or days? OR...is this what "floats" are designed to control? Would you say once it revalues...that it would stay there for a few weeks, months, or (choke!) years? Should we be dialing madly to contact Ali, or do we have some time to consider our options? If the currency is floating...how big are the swells?
  13. It will mean a drive to the big city. Or another big city if you're already in one. Cities are far more anonymous than small towns, anyway. I will certainly check the rates at the banks, and I'll want traveling money to begin with, but it sounds like Ali has got the best price. I'm a little confused about how the "lock-in" process works, particularly when talking about offices that don't exist yet, some days or weeks after the RV. Suppose it comes in first at 1.12...wiggles around for a couple of hours and settles on .86. Next day it goes to 1.06...next day .92...etc. etc. etc. If I lock in at a "high" rate, and go to cash in two weeks later when the going rate is somewhat lower, how comfortable would Ali be in giving me the "high" rate, even though that might be old news? These are not problems that I've EVER had to deal with in the past...
  14. The short tale is that two hundred years ago, a group of people tried to create a form of government that would withstand the ages. Here in 2010, the American people have found that government to be corrupt and wasteful, and the public anger is mounting. November 2 is an opportunity to remind the politicians of who they work for, and some career congressmen might find themselves working for McDonalds.
  15. Don't forget now...the banks are going to want to "send out" your dinars for verification. Apparently, possessing a DeLarue Machine is not a common perk at every branch. That just doesn't sound good to me.
  16. Now I don't fly much. Did fly to Vegas last year about this time, and thought that was an inconvenience, but not too bad. Is there some restriction against traveling with currency? In carry-on? Aren't there forms to fill out, or declarations to make, or some such? It's sad to think that freedom in this country has been blunted so heavily. I can wait a week or so for DT to open up an office a couple of hours away...or my impatienceness could hop a plan to Nashville and have the deed done while the internet is still humming with the news...but I don't want to take a chance that Bubba at the airport will take offense and hold me up.
  17. Yes...coffee. That's why I have to replace my keyboard every year or so. Has anybody actually witnessed a revaluation through the eyes of these various sites? Does the price begin to fluctuate...then make mad swings - or does it just - bloop - change over to whatever Shabibi has decreed? I realize the chances of catching this historic event on TV are pretty slim unless the "boots on the ground" can get wind of it out to us fast enough. I'm not sure the mainstream media has the exact same priorities as we do! I'd hate to have a lot of money for four hours or so and not know it!
  18. I'll give you a big ole "AMEN" on Chase...I can't come up with enough foul words for them. I bank with WF, and I guess they're pretty good in terms of services and technology, but mercenary in terms of pricing. I take points away because they have never taken a personal interest in me other than to sell me something, and they can be very annoying with the sales. Very commercial, prices medium to high, latest technology and online services. Often charges for what others offer free, no free ATMs and limited physical locations, free checking. You can do better. We just use them because of convenience, and I'm thinking of going to USAA.
  19. It's nice to have your site refreshed regularly...but how fresh is the material going in? I would THINK that CBI would carry the freshest information on their own currency...but, bless their hearts, those folks aren't known for truth-telling. The media over there seems to report on every idle conversation and casual thought, but I wouldn't necessarily trust them to report on things that are important. I would almost trust the forex sites more, since they take a more distilled interest. I'm sure Adam won't be able to get the news out fast enough...so I guess the place to look first is e-mail...but I tend to avoid e-mail until after coffee. I need a big button that sits on my desktop screen and tells me if there's been any change. Is it really that simple? Will the numbers just change, or will everything be suspended for a certain period while a change is made? OMG. Look at how much of a hash they made out of seating a government. Is it going to be this traumatic setting a valuation?
  20. Ah...so...thank you for the xe link, hspotman. Will have those numbers burned into my eyelids in no time, so a change will be exciting!
  21. The first place I look for Dinar news is this forum. Even if there's not a thing happening...there's still a buzz of activity on the subject. Keeping things warm. Then, I kind of pedal through the DT site, the CBI site, the Business News... When it does finally happen, we are going to want to look at it from as many different sources as possible, to convince ourselves that it is real. Where do you look first? Got any good links? What are your favorite warning signs? I'm partial to business suspensions myself. What will you be doing when you hear the news?
  22. My husband informs me, because he starts work early in the a.m. - that by the time I read about the RV...I'd best start out after him, because by the time I get to him he will be wiping his arse with his boss's hat, and I don't want to have to go get him out of jail.
