I always check the Arab Bank rate for the IQD once or twice a week. After reading the topic post by Draco about what he saw on Oanda and google translate, I went to bring up the Arab Bank converter web site. After 5 minutes of trying, all I get is "cannot display this page". I've never had this problem. Does anyone else check here periodically? Can anyone else bring it up? Okay, here we go!!!! I'm currently working as a carpenter and just recently hired on a new helper. He is not invested in IQD, but, his uncle is and he knows that I am. He hears me on the phone, daily, talking dinar.... Well, it turns out that his roommate is a manager at a Chase Bank branch here in San Antonio. He asked his roomie to check Chase's foreign currency listings and see what it had for the dinar. After checking, his roomie told him that Chase was not currently dealing in dinar, BUT, it was listed on their screen at $3.66!!!!!!! Anyone else out there heard anything similar??? Look, monkieboy, using your example of a 3:1 RV and an Iraqi holding 100,000 IQD (I wish people would stop putting a $ in front of an IQD amount), after the RV, that Iraqi citizen would have exactly 100,000 IQD. Now, since he is obviously and Iraqi that lives in Iraq, why is he going to go to the bank and cash in his IQD for USD???? Maybe he would if he were planning to immigrate to the USA, but, if he's put up with Saddam and, now the last seven years, I seriously doubt he is going to change his IQD for any other country's currency. There are alot of people that obviously have never been overseas and understand the cultures and economics of other countries. Just because the dinar RVs, that does not mean that Iraqi's will be instantly rich. Yes, the costs of goods will change for them, but, unless they exchange their dinars, they just have some extra cash on hand. Example: When the Mexican Peso devalued against the US dollar in the late '80s, mexican citizens were not INSTANTLY poorer or less wealthy. However, an American going to Mexico on vacation had increased buying power. Fluctuations in a countries currency do not make that country's citizens richer or poorer. The dollar continues to devalue and I have slightly less buying power because of inflation. Yet, I continue to work to support my family and Iraqis will do the same. Everyone, needs to stop thinking about how the RV will affect the average Iraqi. What you need to do is worry about you and your family like I do. I've been to Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Germany, England and Italy while I was in the Army. And, while I was an Air Force brat, my dad took us all over the Pacific. I've seen currencies rise and fall against the dollar my entire life and now, I patiently sit and wait for the dinar to rise back from the ashes of war and occupation. Believe me, after you have cashed in, are you really going to be concerned about the average Iraqi? I know some Iraqi business owners here in San Antonio, and most want nothing to do with Iraq because they fled from Saddam's regieme and fear that even after the government is set, it will only be a matter of time before Iraq is again suffering from internal turmoil. No matter what the RV rate, Iraq makes out like a bandit!!! The major powers of the world will use alot of the IQD for oil and Iraq pays a minimal production cost to "barrel" the crude. IMO, if they did come out too low ($2.00 or less), they stand the chance of loosing the most in the terms of actually money. JMHO. First of all, when the RV does occur, every Iraqi that has a 25K note will have exactly 25,000 IQD. The only way that they would have $6,250.00, as in your example, is if they were to go to the bank, exchange their dinar for USD and then leave the country. What good will USD do the average iraqi??? Secondly, how do you know that almost every Iraqi carries between 150K and 500K worth of dinar? Kinda sounds like you've been over there and stopping everybody on the street and checking there pocket!!!!! With that in mind, think about this...My wife has been indifferent about my investing in IQD. On numerous occasions she has told me to sell it back to GID because of our financial situation. However, when she woke up this morning, she was very excited! She told me she had been dreaming that she was cashing in our dinar, one 25K note at a time and I was mad at her because I didn't want to leave with ALL THAT CASH!!!!! So, nothings too high IMO. Bashing time DrJ....I guess, since you choose to listen to your "friend" then, we really don't need to see you here until 2012. The reason that there has been no RV for the past 7 years is because during that time frame, Iraq was an "OCCUPIED" country. You see, when you invade a country, the first thing you do is make their money worthless.
