Iraq receives four new F-16 fighter jets

Four new F-16 multitask fighter jets have arrived at an air base in Salahuddin province, Defense Ministry declared Friday.

This is the fifth batch of US jets that come to Iraq under the agreement signed between the two countries.

Last October, Iraq received the fourth batch, comprising four jets, of the sophisticated warplanes. 

In July 2015, Baghdad received the first batch of the US-manufactured F-16s. It consisted of four jets. And it was followed by another two planes in February 2016 within the second batch. 

The Iraqi squadron of F-16s is now possessing 18 jets after the arrival of this batch. 

Many of the Iraqi pilots completed their flight training sessions at a US base in Arizona, where one of the pilots died in a combat crash during training.

No more details were given on the cause of the incident.
