I wish to add something to this---that do not call list is for both home and cell phones and it works UNTIL you purchase something off the internet ,there is always a box on every order that is prechecked for you that you agree within the wording it includes releasing your information to third parties, you are then removed from the do not call list-- now the real problem is if you do not want to agree the order doesn't go through ,a new box pops up and says you must agree to the terms----I have been booted off the do not call list so many times they don't even put me on it now!

You're right! It's not true. Everyone should check out Doug's link to snopes before calling the number.

Telemarketers will not get cell numbers and one must choose to be on the 411 directory.

Looks like this old rumor is making the rounds again. Every year or two I get a forwarded email from someone that says we are only 30 days from having cell phone numbers go public.

I regretted putting my home phone on the "do not call list". I rarely got a sales call, just one every couple of months before I added my home phone to the list. I don't know for certain that the "do not call" list has anything to with this or if it is only a coincidence... but it seems after I put my home phone on the list I started getting a lot of "survey" calls.

I have been on the National do not call list for many years and forget how long it has been sense I last updated it so i update my phone about every two years...
