snopes exposed

Great catching-up with you this evening!

I just hopped on the internet to check my email. A friend in Atlanta, whose retired husband served 40 years as an FBI agent, sent me the following ... which leads right into the conversation we had this evening regarding "Snopes." I couldn't believe that it was some of the same info we touched on!!! I think you'll find this interesting.

I have always felt funny about snopes as being the all-in-all. This shed some light on how they seem to know it all.

SNOPES EXPOSED

For the past few years (http://www.snopescom/ has positioned itself, or others have labeled it, as the 'tell-all final word' on any comment, claim and email. But for several years people tried to find out who exactly was behindsnopes.com. Only recently did Wikipedia get to the bottom of it - kinda makes you wonder what they were hiding. Well, finally we know. It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators and researchers, no team of lawyers. It's just a mom-and-pop operation that began as a hobby. David and Barbara Mikkelson in the San Fernando Valley of California started the website about 13 years ago and they have no formal background or experience in investigative research. After a few years it gained popularity believing it to be unbiased and neutral, but over the past couple of years people started asking questions who was behind it and did they have a selfish motivation?

The reason for the questions - or skepticisms - is a result of snopes.com claiming to have the bottom line facts to certain questions or issue when in fact they have been proven wrong. Also, there were criticisms the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues.

A few months ago, when my State Farm agent Bud Gregg in Mandeville hoisted a political sign referencing Barack Obama and made a big splash across the Internet, 'supposedly' the Mikkelson's claim to have researched this issue before posting their findings on snopes.com. In their statement they claimed the corporate office of State Farm pressured Gregg into taking down the sign, when in fact nothing of the sort 'ever' took place. I personally contacted David Mikkelson (and he replied back to me) thinking he would want to get to the bottom of this and I gave him Bud Gregg's contact phone numbers - and Bud was going to give him phone numbers to the big exec's at State Farm in Illinois who would have been willing to speak with him about it. He never called Bud. In fact, I learned from Bud Gregg that no one from snopes.com ever contacted anyone with State Farm.

Yet, snopes.com issued a statement as the 'final factual word' on the issue as if they did all their homework and got to the bottom of things - not!

Then it has been learned the Mikkelson's are very Democratic (party) and extremely liberal. As we all now know from this presidential election, liberals have a purpose agenda to discredit anything that appears to be conservative. There has been much criticism lately over the Internet with people pointing out the Mikkelson's liberalism revealing itself in their website findings. Gee, what a shock?

So, I say this now to everyone who goes to snopes.com to get what they think to be the bottom line fact 'proceed with caution.' Take what it says at face value and nothing more. Use it only to lead you to their references where you can link to and read the sources for yourself. Plus, you can always Google a subject and do the research yourself. It now seems apparent that's all the Mikkelson's do. After all, I can personally vouch from my own experience for their 'not' fully looking into things.

http://http//www.wikipedia.org/ or http://http//www.snopes.com/

I have found this to be true also! Many videos of Obama I tried to verify on Snopes and they said they were False. Then they gave their liberal slant! I have suspected some problems with snopes for some time now, but I have only caught them in half-truths. If there is any subjectivity they do an immediate full left rudder.

Truth or Fiction, is a better source for verification, in my opinion.

http://www.truthorfiction.com/

I have recently discovered that Snopes.com is owned by a flaming liberal and this man is in the tank for Obama. There are many things they have listed on their site as a hoax and yet you can go to You tube yourself and find the video of Obama actually saying these things. So you see, you cannot and should not trust Snopes.com, ever for anything that remotely resembles truth! I don't even trust them to tell me if email chains are hoaxes anymore.

A few conservative speakers on Myspace told me about Snopes.com. A few months ago and I took it upon myself to do a little research to find out if it was true. Well, I found out for myself that it is true. Anyway just FYI please don't use Snopes.com anymore for fact checking and make your friends aware of their political leanings as well. Many people still think Snopes.com is neutral and they can be trusted as factual. We need to make sure everyone is aware that that is a hoax in itself.

I have heard this before, more than once.

And it is still a lie.

Snopes is run by one Independent and one Canadian who cannot even vote here. Their articles have been studied MANY TIMES and the consensus is that they debunk as many liberal stories as conservative ones.

Even the OTHER Factchecking websites say this email is a lie.

This seems to fit in with the snopes article.

This relates to the BBB. Before the formation of the Better Business Burear, a crook, er make that retailer who only retail usually out of the back of a truck on a side street, found himself with an enourmous amount of product to sell ... furniture, plumbing and appliances, paints and renovatiojns stuff. So, he rented a storefront for about a month and figured he would get rid of it. Ist week or so and next to no business. So, one of his people came up with the BBB idea. They designed the Better Business Logo and splashed it far and wide all over the store and windows. All sold before the end of the month. this was almost legitimate and a lot easier than selling off the street. So, he gets another large supply, with committed "orders" to keep comining in, opens his own store (buys it) fills it, blasts the BBB logo all over and opens for business. Years later we have a functioning (sort or) Better Business Bureau, with people overseeing the way business is done and a place to make complaints and they actually follow them up. They have no regulator power, unless perceived, and they have become something to be proud of. But even today becoming a member is as easy as signing up and paying a fee. No one will come and see you fill certain requirments. In the long and short of it, a man who we shall for some obvious purposes call a crook, used perception to become someone the public wanted to deal with. Not too shabby!

Debunked again during my first Tea...adios.Nice try...but they are NOT religious nut job at all...they are pointing out the fallacy in the sweet little feel good story. And you have YET to debunk anything...no matter how much you stomp your foot and declare it to be true.

Sorry I won't need help when the SHTF, I have enough supplies to survive over a year, so don't worry about me...worry about your sanity. Good...go back down into your bunker and cower with the tin foil.....chuckle.

I can't speak to the ownership, or political leaning.

I do know that I wrote to them to correct an error in one of their "findings".

It had to do with the early days of computer automation, and accounts set up by the early IT admins to divert hundredths of a percent of accrued interest to a slush fund.

A family member took programming courses at the local college, analyzed the programming and found the routine.

In going through items after his death, I found documents of correspondence with local law enforcement, state and federal.

The newspaper ran a small article after the conviction.

Snopes never replied or changed their finding, or indicated any interest in doing so.

Pathetic. Google "snopes debunked" if your clogged up pineal gland will allow you the coordination to accomplish that.

I have debunked you period. Nothing more to prove.

I have debunked you period. Nothing more to prove. You can stomp your foot and claim that all you want...you haven't presented a shred of evidence other than your fluoride babbling. You have not debunked...you have BEEN debunked.

So let me get this straight.....

You're going to mainstream 'fact checking' websites to make sure another mainstream 'fact checking' website is legit and non bias?

LOL...how about next we let Casey Antony's dad write her case study file?

You can stomp your foot and claim that all you want...you haven't presented a shred of evidence other than your fluoride babbling. You have not debunked...you have BEEN debunked.

Cool story bro.

Get back to us when you have more than Government backed studies and media telling us the Government isn't corrupt.

Um...yeah...since the site you all claim is legit is the one claiming that Snopes does NOT have a bias. Wouldn't they have a vested interest in debunking the competition?

LOL...how about next we let Casey Antony's dad write her case study file? That would be like claiming Snopes is debunking the Snopes email. Apples and oranges.

Cool story bro.

Get back to us when you have more than Government backed studies and media telling us the Government isn't corrupt. Get back to us when you have more than anonymous bloggers claiming that the government is controlling your mind......til then...cower in your bunker with your stash of tin foil....

AJSKJ is a classic liberal. If he disagrees with you it is not the issues that are addressed but the person attacked. If you disagree with him/her then you are living in a bunker with a tin foil hat. Stop insulting people and address issues. I find that it is the insulting of people that proves a weak point.

Actually, if you have followed my posts with the interest you are displaying, you would know that I do not comment on his politics, only the blatant lies you guys continue to spread. And for THAT, *I* am the one who is continually attacked. If you disagree with him/her then you are living in a bunker with a tin foil hat. No, people who think that fluoride is added to the water by the government to control peoples minds are nutters. Stop insulting people and address issues. I find that it is the insulting of people that proves a weak point. Tell that to those who insult me instead of posting facts.

How come they haven't addressed The Iraq dinar? It seems to be a urban legion. Its been around for about 9 years but hear nothing from them about it. It seem they pick and chose what urban legion they talk about. They jump on the stories about Obama, wouldn't that mean they have an agenda. Just like ajska, I never see a reply on any other thread by ajskj but for Obama threads.
