Govt. pumps $400 million into agricultural sectorThursday, March 10th 2011 4:42

Salahaddin, March 10 (AKnews) - The Iraqi Agriculture Minister said on Thursday

that 470 billion Iraqi Dinars ($402.2 million) has been allocated to his

ministry this year to develop the country’s agricultural sector.

Izzeddine al-Dawla said that the implementation of an irrigation project that

employs the latest techniques and covers an area of more than 3 million acres

is the first strategic project of the ministry, adding that further investment

projects are forecast to help subsidize farmers’ incomes.

Dawla expressed however his disappointment with this year’s federal allocation.

“The amount allocated to the Agriculture Ministry is not sufficient to address

the challenges faced by the sector,” he complained.

i am also a farmer, along with a 60 hr. a week full time job. the talking heads has made that word looked on as sinful ,but we could not do what we do with out it. it is very small in truth. the agri. bill is less than half of one percent of the total US buget, aqnd most of that is under the USDA food and lunch programs.i will agree that some have found loop-holes in it and do take advantage of it ,but please look at the good it does for all of us that eat.
