Iraq Central Bank urges explanatory ruling

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 10:09 GMT

Iraq's central bank urged the Supreme Court to issue a second explanatory ruling that clarifies its first ruling placing it under the supervision of the cabinet, and not of parliament.

The Central Bank warns against the risks of keeping this ruling unexplained.

The advisor of Iraq’s Central Bank Governor Mazhar Mohammed Saleh noted that the Supreme Court should meet the Central Bank governor and board and explain the ruling, Saleh said.

Thanks K. Your posts are great and I really appreciate the time it must take to gather the news. This seems like a pretty standard power play for control of the central bank. I still think it will be more efficient for CBI to report to Maliki. I don't think the asset thing is a really big issue as they will have to pay back the debt anyway which would be more reason to do the RV sooner rather than later. JMHO.
