Major General Matthew MacFarlane has assumed command of the Combined Task Force, succeeding Major General John Brennan, according to a statement issued by the Joint Task Force, Operation Inherent Resolve.  

  

 

  

During the ceremony, the commander of the US Central Command, General Eric Corella, said that the joint task force, Operation Inherent Resolve, is ready to transfer its assistance through advice to the next stage, and that the partners from the Joint Operations Command in Iraq, the Iraqi Security Forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces are expanding their capabilities daily and have What it takes to defeat ISIS.   

  

"We cannot tackle complex challenges such as the threats of terrorist groups alone. We must rely heavily on each other's capabilities. The United States must be a reliable partner in the Middle East," he added.  

  

During the change of command ceremony that took place on September 8, the new force commander, Major General MacFarlane, said: “We and our Iraqi partners have given a lot of blood over the past eight years to prevent the return of ISIS, forever, reiterating his personal commitment to U.S. partners that together and through By joint efforts, ISIS will remain completely defeated and unable to threaten the sovereignty of Iraq and the Middle East region."  

  

For his part, Major General John Brennan said, "Over the past year, the coalition has made decisive gains against ISIS, and these advances and those gains will continue under the leadership of Major General Matthew MacFarlane."
