European Union Ambassador: Importing Iraqi oil is a good option for us

Baghdad / NINA / - The Ambassador of the European Union in Baghdad, Villa Variola, affirmed today, Sunday, that importing Iraqi oil is a good option, while noting the importance of completing the tasks of the white paper by the new government.

Variola told the official agency: "The changes in the oil market are according to supply and demand, and there is a great impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war and its economic effects, as well as facing many details and guarantees, and through this process the issue has its own ramifications," adding that "European countries are in the midst of Searching for new partners and alternatives around the oil import file, but importing Iraqi oil is a good option for us.

He continued, "The Iraqi economy has many potentials and opportunities, and it is a diversified economy.

"For us and within the Supporting Committee for Economic Improvements in Iraq, we support and urge the Iraqi government to significantly improve its steps in implementing the White Paper, and it is very important that these tasks be completed by the new government," Variola said.

The Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), had revealed earlier, that France had approached the possibility of Iraq to supply the European market with oil./End of 9

SULAIMANI — Ville Varjola, the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, said on Sunday (June 19) Iraq’s oil exports are a good option for the EU.

Varjola told Iraqi News Agency (INA) after the changes in the oil market related to the Russia-Ukraine war, the EU countries are looking for new alternatives to import oil from and Iraq would be good choice. 

He also said the EU supports Iraq's economic developments, while hoping that the Iraqi government's reforms would be implemented as soon as possible before the formation of a new government. 

Iraqi Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar said on Sunday the ministry is working to boost oil production in the country to eight million barrels per day.

He said Iraq’s oil exports will amount to 3,850,000 in July.
