Follow up / supplier news

The Energy and Radioactive Sources Control Authority confirmed, on Friday, that Iraq seeks to produce 12,000 megawatts of solar energy by the year 2025, while indicating that new contracts will be concluded in the field of solar energy .

The head of the authority, Kamal Hussein, said, in a televised statement, that "the green economy has become one of the main pillars in the world, especially after the remarkable rise in carbon emissions resulting from fossil fuels for the production of electric power and various other uses ."

Hussein explained that "the Paris Agreement of 2017 obliged countries to move towards reducing emissions," noting that "Iraq seeks to reduce these emissions, especially as it is considered one of the fragile and highly affected regions in the issue of global warming ."

He pointed out that "the green economy is intended to rely on energy sources with low carbon emissions by reducing the use of fossil fuels, such as natural energies, sun and wind, as well as nuclear energy as it is low in emissions ."

He added that "many Arab countries have moved towards entering nuclear energy, such as the UAE, which has built 4 nuclear reactors, in addition to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and there is a tangible trend towards adopting large investments in the field of nuclear energy ."

He stressed that "there is a trend in Iraq towards reducing emissions through the solar energy project in 2025, as contracts have been signed with the UAE, Masdar Company and the French Total Company in this regard, as well as a set of other future contracts that will be signed with countries sponsoring solar energy ."

He added, "Iraq intends to generate 12,000 megawatts until 2025, and this will contribute significantly to reducing emissions and will support the Iraqi energy mix in the coming years ."

He explained that "the main role of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers is to follow up and implement the decisions issued by the Council of Ministers and ministries and implement the decisions .

LMAO…you gotta love the positive thinking from these folks. Iraq with all the petroleum in the world still flares off millions daily because they don’t have the technology and to corrupt to hire it out. BUT in a couple of years supply the good citizens of Iraq with 12,000 megawatts of solar energy. I guess these guys are running for some political office.
Who knows, maybe with this new government coming in they actually can stop some of the corruption and invest some of these billions of dollars back into the country’s infrastructure….

  Baghdad: Mustafa Al-Hashemi
A research team from the Market Research and Consumer Protection Center at the University of Baghdad organized a questionnaire, which was distributed among a random sample of the community in which (446) people participated, with the aim of identifying the consumer’s opinion on the importance of generating electricity from solar energy, as a renewable energy, which will determine the need to find an alternative to conduct Changes in favor of individuals obtaining electricity from environmentally friendly sources to achieve a better life, because that energy will reduce the import of electricity and reduce the burden of subsidies on the government.

Electricity sufficiency
The survey confirmed that 86% of individuals do not get enough of the traditional electricity produced from (oil, gas and coal, and only 14% of individuals get a sufficient amount of electricity from electric power sources, which indicates the suffering of individuals as a result of not obtaining sufficient electrical energy). This prompts the concerned authorities to search for suitable alternatives to supplying individuals with electricity.
The questionnaire asked another question about the appropriate alternatives to supplying citizens with electricity to the survey sample about their preferences for obtaining electrical energy, from renewable energy sources (solar energy), or from traditional energy sources (oil, gas and coal)? The answers were that 89% of them prefer obtaining it from renewable energy sources, while about 11% affirmed that they prefer obtaining electricity from traditional energy sources, which confirms the need for the government to search for alternatives to alleviate the suffering of the citizen by moving towards renewable energy to achieve sustainable access to energy. Citizens on energy.

environmental hazards
Regarding the environmental risks arising from the use of traditional energy sources (oil, gas and coal) to produce electricity, about 99% of the respondents fully agreed that the use of traditional energy sources causes environmental risks, while only 1% of them did not agree with this opinion, and this is another reinforcement that supports the adoption On (solar energy), as an alternative, especially since Iraq possesses huge potentials of solar energy throughout the year, because it is located in the global solar belt, as every 100 km2 of western and southern deserts has the ability to produce energy equivalent to 30 million tons of oil equivalent annually using Photovoltaic panels, making Iraq an ideal place to invest in solar energy that can solve the electricity shortage in the long run.
And whether the environmental trend towards using the source of solar energy to generate electricity is a profitable matter, 98% of individuals stated that they fully agree that this is a profitable matter, while 2% of them do not agree with that, although its use contributes to reducing electricity bills in the long run. long term, as a result of rationalizing consumption.

Jobs
Regarding the job opportunities provided by the application of solar energy, the answers of the survey sample were about 65% of individuals agreeing with the contribution of solar energy in creating new job opportunities, and 30% of individuals were neutral, while 5% of them did not agree with this opinion, as About two-thirds of the survey sample realize that the application of solar energy contributes to creating new job opportunities for many unemployed graduates and developing small businesses
and medium.
The questionnaire discussed support for the Central Bank’s initiative to grant loans to citizens at relatively low interest rates to establish a system to generate electricity from solar energy sources. It was found that 66% of individuals do not support the Central Bank’s initiative, while 22% of individuals somewhat agreed with that initiative and 12% of individuals support This initiative, due to the difficulty of organizing the process by the individuals themselves, and the government and the private sector must have a role in establishing solar energy systems.

power stations
About the extent to which the state should establish plants to generate electricity from solar energy and distribute it among citizens instead of each individual setting up a private system, 92% of individuals affirmed their support for the government’s need to do so, and 7% of individuals were neutral and 1% of individuals did not agree, as we note The majority of the sample agreed that the state, as well as the private sector, should establish these systems, and it was found that the cost of solar energy is lower than the cost of traditional energy in the long run, as 80% of individuals agreed with that and 20% of them did not agree, and that the use of solar energy as a source To generate electricity leads to the rationalization of the use of conventional electric energy. 98% of the sample members fully agreed that the use of solar energy as a source of electricity generation leads to rationalization of use, and 2% of them disagreed with this opinion.

Recommendations and conclusion
The results of the questionnaire concluded that the government should conduct media campaigns to educate citizens about the need to rationalize electricity consumption, and encourage the use of solar energy to obtain it, as it is clean, safe, health and environmentally, and achieves significant financial savings in the long run.
remote.
The questionnaire called on the government to establish plants to generate electricity from solar energy as a source of clean energy, and to distribute it among citizens instead of each individual setting up his own system, as well as allowing the private sector to participate in electricity generation plants from the source of solar energy.
The results focused on the development of regulations and laws that allow the generation and sale of energy by independent producers (the private sector), in addition to coordinating with the National Investment Commission the need to include in contracts for the construction of investment housing complexes a clause stipulating the establishment of plants to generate electricity from renewable energy sources (panels).
