Integrity: Severe imprisonment of the former head of the Baghdad Investment Authority after appealing the decision to release him

{Local: Al Furat News} The Federal Integrity Commission revealed, on Tuesday, the issuance of a ruling in his presence that stipulates severe imprisonment for the former head of the Baghdad Investment Commission; for breach of his duties.

And the investigation department of the commission stated, in a statement received by {Euphrates News}, that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued a ruling criminalizing the head of the Baghdad Investment Commission, providing for severe imprisonment for four years and a fine of ten million, noting that the ruling came in accordance with the provisions of the resolution (160 of 1983).

And the circuit added that the court, after reviewing the evidence, proofs and defenses included in the discriminatory appeal by the Integrity Commission and the decision of the Federal Court of Cassation to overturn the previous decision to release the accused, reached full conviction of his incrimination, and decided to sentence him to severe imprisonment; Based on the provisions of the decision.

The commission had appealed the two rulings issued by the Central Criminal Court, the first of which included the cancellation of the charge and the release of the accused (the former head of the Baghdad Investment Commission) in the case of breaching his job duties and the charge of taking sums of 4% through an investor, in exchange for completing the granting of investment licenses. The second includes a sentence of imprisonment of the investor for a period of two years with a fine; In order to tighten it, the punishment was light and not commensurate with the facts and gravity of the crime.

The circuit added that "the court, after perusal of the evidence obtained in this case, represented by the statement of the legal representative of the bank who requested the complaint against the accused, the minutes of the investigative committee in which the incapacity of the accused was established, the testimony of another accused and whose case was separated, as well as their testimony at the same stage of the investigation, His escape from justice, I found it sufficient and convincing to convict him, so I sentenced him in absentia to severe imprisonment for a period of five years, based on the provisions of Article (331) of the Penal Code.
