Donors must show negative COVID test results to attend Republican National Committee spring retreat

In order to attend the Republican National Committee's spring donor retreat in Florida this week, which will include remarks from former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, guests must first "take a COVID-19 PCR or Rapid Antigen test and receive a negative result," The Washington Examiner reports.

An email sent to wealthy contributors invited to the event states that even those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 must get tested and submit negative test results to the RNC in order to receive their credentials, the Examiner reports. "If you or members in your party fail to fulfill this requirement, you will be denied entry to the 2021 RNC Spring Retreat," the email said. A Republican National Committee official confirmed the email's authenticity.

This is a sharp contrast with Republicans who are publicly speaking out against the idea of a "vaccine passport," which offers verified proof of vaccination. People with that kind of document would likely be able to travel without quarantining and go to concerts and other large events.

Last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) prohibited state government agencies from issuing any "standardized documentation for the purpose of certifying an individual's COVID-19 vaccination status to a third party," and on Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed his own executive order banning any government-mandated vaccine passports.

Understood.....just seems hypocritical when the virus has been touted as fake news by so many on the Right.  As always, just my opinion.

The virus is not fake. What is being touted is the fact, by science, that it is not as severe as they want us to believe. With a survival rate of 99 % there was no reason to shut down states. There are circumstances where that might be a bit higher but those involve the elderly and compromised. Steps are usually in place to help with that.

By all means get a vaccine, wear a mask, stay isolated. I don`t have an issue with that, just don't force others to do it. Don't shame others for not doing it. Don't restrict others for not doing it. Don't force people out of a job.

Do provide tried and true medicines that work.

Don't put on a campaign of distrust about a medicine that works just to make the opponent look bad and then months later come out and say it is a good thing.

Again, it is a choice we all should be given, not forced to take.

I agree with you on all of that.....Requiring a negative test, in this case, takes away the "choice" to attend for those who "choose" to not get tested.  Which choice is the right choice, that's the question in this instance, as the GOP is forcing the issue.

Well this should shut up the Socialist Marxist Dems . The Republics are doing something definitive to minimize exposure and the spread of covid , while the Socialist Marxist Dems haven't rolled out such protocols , first . Then again, the SMD's don't have to based on attendee crowd size . SDM's are both jealous they didn't think of this 1st, and perturbed based on their negative response to these thoughtout protocols.
