How bizarre....

Much of the world knew a few hours after voting concluded that Donald Trump will be the 45th president of the United States, based on the tally of electoral college votes. But as of Wednesday morning, Hillarious Clinton was still leading in the popular vote, by a margin of 135,495. Clinton had 59,186,057 votes, while Trump had garnered 59,049,470.

While confusing—and frustrating—to many, it’s not the first time in history that election results reflect such a discrepancy. In the 2000 election, Al Gore won the popular vote but lost the presidency to George Bush, who won five more votes from the electoral college. In addition to Bush, only three other former candidates in U.S. history have lost the popular vote but won the presidency: Benjamin Harrison in 1888, Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876 and John Quincy Adams in 1824.

In 2012, when President Barack Obama won the re-election against former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Obama claimed 332 electoral college votes and 51.1 percent of the popular vote. Romney earned 60.9 million votes—more, so far, than both Trump and Clinton—in a losing effort. Analysts pin Clinton’s popular vote lead to strong Democratic support in states such as California are responsible.

The number of electoral college "electors" in each state is determined by the number of members of Congress from that particular state. For example, Iowa has six members of Congress, and therefore six electors in the college. The popular vote, on the other hand, is the number of voting citizens who head out to the polls, make their choices in early voting or fill out absentee ballots.

Trump took 276 electoral college votes while Clinton secured 218. As the public waited for Clinton to give her concession speech on Wednesday, there were still 44 unclaimed votes of the 538 total from the electoral college.

Exit polls, conducted by Edison Research for the National Election Pool, a consortium of ABC News, The Associated Press, CBSNews, CNN, Fox News and NBC News, showed some strong trends. Trump beat Clinton handily—53 percent to 41 percent—among male voters, while Clinton won among women by 54 percent to 42 percent. Exit polls also showed Trump was the more favorable candidate among white voters, especially those without college degrees—72 percent to 23 percent, according to CBS News. Clinton earned majorities among blacks, Hispanics/Latinos and Asian-American voters, and also proved to be the more popular candidate among voters ages 18 to 44. Overall, Clinton won the non-white popular vote by a landslide. According to the exit polls, she took 71 percent of non-white college graduate voters and 75 percent of non-white voters without college degrees.

I guess our election process needs some work.

A key factor they "forgot".

The electoral is based on congressional representation.

That, however, is determined by LEGAL AND REGISTERED voters.

ocrap's appeal for the illegals to run and vote have almost no bearing on the number of electoral votes any state gets.

That means in those counties where 150,000 votes were counted even though there were only 110,000 legal voters could only sway the popular.

Even though the electoral is determined by each party and usually awarded for loyality, not every democrat is a flaming progressive socialist America hating commie traitor.

Some are actually just moral conservatives that hate the military industrial complex perpetual war waging machine slightly more than the corrupt politicians.

Your insinuation that the electoral is corrupted by republicans is destroyed by the fact there are more dem than con electorals.

Another point is even though the electoral is appointed by party, they are not stupid people, and, they are Americans.

Which means they already know about more lies and deceptions than those who only become a politician for a couple hours every four years.

Half of those electoral votes will be cast by dems that actually love America, and realize full well clinton would have only destroyed.

I would agree the election process needs work, but not before the education system is rebuilt and the special interest brainwashing is removed.

It's amazing kids today can even drive with their heads stuck so far up their buts.

With 19% of HS grads that are close to illiterate, but have been taught the proper technique to apply a condom, couldn't find the time instant on a cosine but have been through so much sex ed they think same sex partners is a good alternative, and don't have any skills, but know exactly how much they will get for every additional child, or how much they can make selling crack on the corner, who couldn't tell you who their representatives are but have made thousands in the last year as paid agitators,  whatever makes you think they understand the ramifications of a 10,000 page trade agreement with Asia?

To them "individual status" mean how many likes they get online, how many face book friends, or the total take when housing, food stamps, and all other "freebies" are added, they don't even know what the words "corporate entity" mean.

Pretty much everything government  needs to be "fixed", but until people are educated, they are little more than someone else's pawn.

Thank You, DiveMaster5734!

A couple things I would like to add are unregistered voters, whoever they are, should not vote in any election.  Period.  Otherwise, election fraud can (and is) be realized.  Second, the voting precincts have irregularities on the percentage of the individuals who are registered to vote in that precinct that actually vote.

So, in my opinion, the will of the people of the United States of America is not necessary represented by the popular vote of the people who are registered to vote in the United States of America.  So, I am less concerned about the Popular vote for these two reasons unless they are grossly different.

Well thought out and very astute. I just wonder what the response would be if  President Trump had won the majority of the popular vote and lost to The Electoral College. I'm willing to bet the tone would be very ugly indeed. Personally, I didn't have a dog in this fight, because I couldn't with good conscience vote for either criminal. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't remember a president elect being called as a defendant in a criminal case prior to be inaugurated. But that's okay, because everyone here seems to think he is a stand up guy who was chosen by our Lord to be the next Savior... Interesting times for sure.

Honestly, I probably still wouldn't be over the rage if Trump "lost".

I had two plans for post election. Had it gone the other way, I would have already contacted a company that wants to buy mine, the garage sale date would already be posted, and the biggest decision would have been do I stay in America and just retire, or take a position in a country with a single digit latitude.

Trump is human, as such, he was bound to make a few mistakes. With all the power and influence he commands, the lack of constant scandals is in itself testimony to his character. Just look at bill clinton for the poster boy of power abuse.

If you chose to react in horror at a sliver in Trumps eye, and can ignore the dead bodies of innocent people laying on the plank in hillarious' eye, that is your choice.

I would suggest you stop listening to those propaganda new channels, and do your own research without google or using progressive agenda sites.

I'm on several forums, one that is total wild wild west. No profanity filters, no limits, no restrictions. There's everything from hard core commies to hard core patriots, and every flavor in between.

The will never be a consensus on anything there, but it came as close as possible when discussions about clintons illegal actions were concerned.

The fact some accepted her allowing Benghazi to be overrun as proof of leadership decision making still makes my blood boil.

Fortunately, that lunatic fringe is sparsely populated, no matter how much noise they make.

The moron demonstrators are proof of the immaturity, ignorance, and selfishness that exists on the left.

Trump held out his hand in friendship to them, and they screamed "hater".

That obvious meant they were too busy hating everyone else that isn't exactly like them.

Every bowel movement, from (only) Black Lives Matter, to the new black panthers, to main stream media and Hollyweird, has proved to the entire world THEY have been the problem the whole time.

Those stinking hypocrites have pretty much destroyed their own reputation, and all they have done is confirmed to everyone else they do not deserve the time of day.

Respect is a two way street.

The rest of us are not going to take getting slapped in the face by a tantrum throwing jackass acting like a two year old anymore.

Like John Wayne said, "life is tough, it's even tougher when your stupid."

It's time for the babies to get over it and grow up.

I appreciate your experiencing pain, but to be honest, I really don't give a damn.

I've put up with far too many  people ignorant of what America was created to be, and if they chose to wallow in self-pity, so be it.

If they bothered to educate themselves, they would see the world with brand new eyes.

No pain here... I wouldn't have voted for either one of those criminals... I think the real pain is yet to come. JMHO
