Skip to main content Arab World Sudani: There are No Combat Forces in Iraq to Withdraw US President Joe Biden shakes hands with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shiaa al-Sudani at the beginning of a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office of the White House on Monday, April 15, 2024. (dpa) Heba El Koudsy 10:27-18 April 2024 AD ـ 09 Shawwal 1445 AH TT Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shiaa Al-Sudani said that the justification for the presence of the international coalition against ISIS, which consists of 86 countries, has ended, after Iraq was able to defeat the terrorist organization. Sudani was speaking during a meeting with media correspondents on Tuesday night in Washington, where he met with US President Joe Biden and a number of officials. In response to a question by Asharq Al-Awsat regarding the controversy surrounding the presence of US combat forces in Iraq, and whether the discussions he held with the American administration included a clear schedule for their withdrawal, Al-Sudani said: “There are no combat forces in Iraq for them to withdraw,” indicating that the US forces have left the country, and only an advisory body was still present. The Iraqi premier added that the joint military technical committees were discussing mechanisms for ending the international coalition’s mission in Iraq and moving to a bilateral relationship between Iraq and the coalition members, mainly the US. “Iraq in 2024 is different from Iraq in 2014 when the work of the coalition forces began,” Sudani said, noting that ending the work of the coalition was an Iraqi demand, part of the government program that was approved by Parliament, and the subject of discussion between the Iraqi government and the United States since August 2023. He also stressed that the escalation between Iran and Israel affects the stability of Iraq and the region, saying: “We will use our legal and diplomatic rights to protect our lands from any aggression.” The Iraqi Prime Minister denied that his country had received reports or indications from Iran about launching missiles and drones in the attack on Israel. According to Sudani, the cause of the current escalation was the failure to address the Palestinian issue, as well as the continued Israeli aggression on Gaza and the deliberate targeting of civilians. Asked about US promises to lift US Treasury sanctions against Iraqi banks involved in money laundering operations on behalf of Iran, Sudani said that the current government has worked to implement financial and banking reforms during the last period, and has achieved progress in controlling more than 80 percent of the financial transactions conducted by Iraqi banks in accordance with international standards. The Iraqi Prime Minister announced that his country has launched promising projects and set a clear timetable to invest in liquefied gas and natural gas through contracts with companies operating in the Kurdistan region, with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency within a period of three to five years and discussing new oil and gas projects with US companies in Houston and Michigan

Iraq self-sufficient in wheat and food for six months, minister says By Reuters April 17, 20242:41 PM GMT+1Updated 8 hours ago DUBAI, April 17 (Reuters) - Iraq is self-sufficient in wheat and food supplies for six months, Minister of Commerce Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairy said on Wednesday. The agriculture ministry also expects Iraq's wheat harvest to exceed seven million tonnes, the state news agency cited the ministry spokesman as saying. Iraq, with a population of more than 43 million, requires between 4.5 million and 5.0 million tons of wheat per year, according to its agriculture ministry. Baghdad is seeking to be more self-sufficient in wheat, despite dwindling water supplies in its rivers, by shifting to growing crops in desert areas using ground water.

  9. As far as I am aware it was quote strong before the war. I did read many moons ago it was 10 bucks to 1 VND but I am not sure how accurate it was . I don't believe it would ever be close to that now.
  10. @edbeach yes the breed was started here and it is rare for them to be very aggressive. They were initially breed to get badgers out of sets and are really strong wee dogs. They tails are thick and strong because it used to pull them out the badger set , fox hole or rat holes. Very common as family pets here . Even with young children. LIKE all puppies the need to be properly socialised and trained. I breed shih tzus for many years and I can safely say they were all well bread and socialised. I know because I know where every puppy went and I still have their families on my fb page, so I get regular updates. Did you know your puppy is like a polar bear? Polar bears have black skin and so do westies. They are normally very funny sociable wee dogs. It might just be her puppy teeth causing the aggression but please address it ASAP. They can also be prone to allergies and diabetes in later life Best of luck with her.
  11. The dinar will not be returned to the forex whilst Al Sudani or the CBI governor is not in the country. They will jointly announce it and declare a 3 day holiday to celebrate the return of their currency and country to the international arena. IMHO
  12. you can buy VND in any country . You can't buy IQD
  13. @edbeachand @pokerplayer Vietnam has an internationally traded currency. Iraq doesn't. Theoretically they could return to the forex at the current rate. You can buy and in any country in the world. Can you do that with the dinar? No. Vietnam benefits from a low rate because they are primarily and export country. Iraq is mainly an import country so they would do better with a higher exchange rate. The bigger issue for the WTO is that at the present time the IQD is not exchangeable regardless of rate.
  14. @Artitech Here you go... https://nypost.com/2024/04/15/us-news/biden-cheat-sheet-for-iraq-pm-meeting-caught-on-camera-including-instructions-to-pause/#

  16. So, theoretical senario.... Al Sudani and Co return from the US. They come back have a cabinet meeting to explain what took place in the US. Al Alak moves the dinar to 1:1 or just over that. Budget gets scheduled for reading in parliament at end of April beginning of may. The rate is moved upon their return which let's them get the money out the mattresses and they talk about deleting the 3 zeros whist, educating the citizens. They also monitor inflation during this time and at the end of April beginning of May the budget goes to parliament. Budget eventually gets passed and at this point the rate is reinstated to forex and we can all go to the bank sometime in May or early June

  20. By the way... I don't by any stretch of the imagination believe Trump is completely innocent but I also don't buy what the Democrats are trying to make him out to be. I am quite sure there are many other politicians who are or have done worse and have just been lucky not to be found out
  21. As most of you will be aware , I am not an American. I am not a big political person here in the UK. I don't fully understand how US Politics work. However, I feel a need to say this.... I have watched some of the trials DJT has been through in recent months. I have watch Biden as well and I have to say Biden does appear demented and unaware of what is going on around him . Having given consideration to how well the US appeared to me , as an onlooker, when trump was last the president compared to the utter mess the US IS IN NOW... Now if I was an American I can assure you I would be voting for trump! He was the first and only world leader to bring nations together. To facilitate co operation between nations. Now the world is going to pot and Joe Biden or our PRIME MINISTER has the ability to fix the mess they helped create. The world needs TRUMP to fix the world before it is much worse. Go Trump 2024! Now if you dont like what i have said ruby me all you want but like everyone here i am allowed to express my opinion. Jmho
