Shiite cleric 'offers repentance' for ISIS terrorists

Shiite cleric Mohammed Taqi Al-Madrasi on Friday said the remnants of ISIS terror group should 'repent'. We call on the transgressing sect to repent, and mesh itself into the national fabric, the cleric said in his weekly statement.

Madrasi said that the government guaranteed fair trial for those recruits, calling for Iraq leaders to unite the people after the end of war on terror.

The cleric, close to Iran, cited religious texts in an attempt to justify his motives to save the souls of the terrorists.

"But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah," he said, citing a verse from the holy Quran, giving a pretext for letting the terrorists get away with their crimes.

Wars in Islam are waged with the aim to maintain peace, the cleric continued.
