Sadrist: Reasons behind changing the currency, unconvincing

Baghdad (NINA) MP from Ahrar bloc, Abdul Hussein Risan, said that changing currency at the time being is filled with problems which the MP did not explain.

In a statement issued by the Media Commission of Al Sadr Trend today, the MP said the reasons which the Central Bank presented to change currency were unconvincing comparing them with the damages that may face such procedure during the present time.

The central Bank said that changing the currency will give it some distinctive features that can stop counterfeiting as well as eliminating zeroes which will facilitate financial transactions through less time and efforts and enhance the dinar’s exchange value.

From what I have read, the present dinars we hold are counterfeit proof, so that sounds like some real smoke to me.

Sadr not only has a vested interest, himself, in order to keep his power base, but also a mandate from Iran to keep his people poor. That's the only way he can continue to control them. Once the government is up and running and the Iraqi currency is international, a lot of businesses will come into Iraq, and Sadr's followers will be able to get decent jobs. A man who can feed his family is a very different man than one with hungry children and no hope.
