dinarcimi
A video by Josh Rushing of Al Jazeera. As US troops prepare to leave Iraq in six months time, the country will be left with no effective defence from external threats. The army is ill-equipped, with no Iraqi pilots train to fly modern jet fighters and no missile defence system. Iraq currently does not possess any such aircraft, and if it were to purchase such planes it would take two to three years to fill a single squadron of pilots. Al Jazeera's Josh Rushing reports from Tikrit, Iraq. http://english.aljazeera.net/video/middleeast/2011/06/2011630135513186277.html
matski7
There has been four bases or "areas" deemed as "enduring " bases, so far publicly the US has admitted extended presence until 2016. Iraqi air force has been training here since 2010 "officially" http://musingsoniraq.blogspot.com/2010/07/iraqi-air-force-to-begin-training-on-f.html latest Iraqi news on US presence http://another site.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/us-iraq-embassy-agreement/ from the looks off it around here they are well on their way to getting some jets geared up. They are little further along than his report states. But not by much In my opinion. The political sales pitch should be coming soon to the american people, regardless of what we say about it, the presence here will continue wether it be known to the american public or not. The United States has never left a country we have previously occupied that I am aware of. We have troops in over 130 countries. This has never been about getting the Iraqis squared away. It has been quite the dog and pony show though. Our troops push that agenda the get them on their feet agenda so we can leave..the brass... not so much. Just sayin.
Luigi1
The Iraqis may ask the US to stay longer. They hinted they will pay to keep US forces there past the deadline. Violence is again on the rise. Al Sadr was order by Iran to stand down in 2006 & give the USA a false sense of security. Iran will unleash Al Sadr when the timing is to it's advantage. Iran still claims Iraq & Saudi Arabia as part of ancient Persia.
tileman1814
I think we should ramp our military in Iraq to protect our intrests from Iran who will be in there the second after we leave. We should tell Maliki (little sadam) we are not leaving until thery can prove they can protect themselves.
