My curiosity is spiked again. Question. If one kilo of potatoes cost 740 Iraqi dinars, and the price per kilo tomato 656 IQD, and the smallest note in circulation is a 50 dinar note, (no smaller denomination and no coins) this is my understanding, and they go to the market for just one kilo of potatoes, and / or 1 kilo tomatoes, how do they make change? Just wondering if I am missing something. I would imagine not all transactions are done with a "ration" or "smart" card. Just wondering.

When we go grocery shopping, and it is nothing like the States, most of the markets are individual small business owners. You have to round up your purchases. You either buy more, less, round up or round down your purchase. You just negotiate for what you have. It's easier than you think. The Iraqi's have down this for so long, they don't think twice about it.

Hope this helps.
