Minister of Trade: We have an estimated storage of two million tons of grain and expect prices to stabilize in Ramadan

confirmed the presence of a strategic storage of grains estimated at two million tons of grain in the warehouses, while expecting stability in food prices in the month of next Ramadan.

Al-Ghurairi said for the "Hour of Dialogue" program, which is presented to Al-Iraqiya News and followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the main goal of the ministry is to restore the citizen's confidence in it and the services it provides to him," stressing that "the ministry is responsible for the internal and external trade policy of the country in accordance with Iraq's economic policy."
He pointed out that "the ministry's goal is to join the World Trade Organization," noting that "it was within the government program and the ministerial curriculum the file of Iraq's accession to the World Trade Organization and its return as an observer in the organization."
He explained that "there are requirements and conditions that Iraq must implement to join the World Organization, and the basis of transformation is to move towards the private sector and develop it," noting that "Iraq's accession to the World Trade Organization makes it part of the global system by providing support and keeping pace with international industries."
He pointed out that "the government program stressed that the private sector should be a key partner in the Iraqi economy, and there will be great support for the private sector," adding: "We have issued a comprehensive commodity structure with imports and exports, which will serve as a roadmap to support the private sector."
He stressed that "the ministry is supporting Iraqi industries and encouraging them in cooperation with other ministries," noting that "the ministry is working to achieve food security."
He continued: "We have a strategic storage estimated at two million tons of grain in the ministry's stores," stressing that "the ministry was able through the food basket to achieve food security."
He pointed out that "Iraq was not included in the global statistics of countries suffering from inflation in food prices," noting that "the ministry's strategic storage is sufficient for several months."
He went on to say: "The ration consists of 7 articles, corresponding to 12 articles for those covered by social care," noting that "more than 7 million citizens are covered by the food basket of the social welfare category."
On the prices of foodstuffs in the markets, the minister said that "there are no large differences in the prices of basic materials in the market, as the ministry follows up daily the prices of foodstuffs in the local markets," explaining that "the ministry had several prayers for manipulators of food prices in the markets."
"We expect prices to stabilize in Ramadan, as large quantities of food will be pumped into the markets ahead of the holy month."
Regarding the ration card, the minister pointed out that "about 600,000 ration cards were withheld from those who are not eligible after updating the electronic data, as it was found that there are more than 200,000 deceased and receive a share and more than 200,000 passengers and receive a ration share," stressing that "updating the data will be through an electronic application within the ministry's program to facilitate procedures."
