Today, Wednesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, and discussed with her the cooperation relations between Iraq and the UN mission, and the review of the independent strategy for the mission’s work in Iraq.

 

Al-Sudani’s office said in a statement received by Al-Ghad Press, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert,” noting that “during the meeting, relations of cooperation between Iraq and the mission were discussed.” The United Nations, reviewing the independent strategy for the mission’s work in Iraq, and discussing the joint programs and projects implemented by the mission in a number of regions of Iraq, in addition to following up on the efforts and preparations made for the success of the provincial council elections scheduled for next December.

 

He added, "The meeting witnessed a review of Iraq's efforts to address the issue of the displaced, and their voluntary return to their areas of residence after providing the necessary atmosphere that supports their stability and reintegration into society, as well as a discussion of Iraq's efforts to confront climate challenges, and its measures to address the drought problem."

A statement from Al-Sudani's media office, received by Al-Eqtisad News, stated that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' Al-Sudani "received, today, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert."

 

He added, "The meeting discussed cooperation relations between Iraq and the UN mission, reviewed the independent strategy for the mission's work in Iraq, and discussed joint programs and projects implemented by the mission in a number of regions of Iraq, in addition to following up on the efforts and preparations made for the success of the provincial council elections scheduled for next December."
