On Wednesday, the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, announced the initiation of electrical interconnection with Saudi Arabia, while confirming the government's serious intention to support the energy file.  

  

  

  

And the Ministry of Electricity said in a statement, followed by “NAS” (April 12, 2023), that “the minister made, yesterday, Tuesday, an official visit to Riyadh at the head of a ministerial delegation, accompanied by the Prime Minister’s advisor for energy affairs, Imad Al-Alaq, and the Iraqi ambassador to Saudi Arabia, during which he met with the Minister of Energy.” Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.  

  

The statement added, "The prince confirmed that this visit has great connotations, and we find it a good and fruitful opportunity to expand the horizons of cooperation and joint work between the two countries, indicating that the Saudi king and the crown prince recommend harmonizing the Kingdom's projects with Baghdad in the energy sector."  

  

The Saudi energy minister said, according to the statement, "We really support the development of your economic files, and we carefully monitor your rise and confident measures by working to diversify energy sources and exploit gas fields."  

  

In turn, Minister Fadel explained, "The great interest that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani attaches to strengthening partnerships with the Kingdom."  

  

The Minister of Electricity indicated, "During the meeting, the serious direction of the government and the ministry to work to achieve qualitative gains to support the energy file, and he also touched on three important axes, which are the agendas of the visit."  

  

The statement added that the agenda of the visit included "the initiation and launch of the (Iraqi-Saudi electrical interconnection) project, which is an important reason for the exchange of energy benefits, and the completion of the partnership project with (ACWA Power) to install a 1000 MW solar power plant, as well as benefit from successful experiences." A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, said: "The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, made an official visit to Riyadh at the head of a ministerial delegation, accompanied by the Prime Minister's Advisor for Energy Affairs, Imad Al-Alaq, and the Iraqi ambassador, and he met with the Saudi Energy Minister, Abdulaziz bin Salman."

 

Moussa added, in a statement, that "it was agreed to start the electrical connection, expand the link point, which is the Arar station, establish the conveyor line, and prepare from both sides to complete the procedures of ACWA Power."

 

The statement quoted the Minister of Electricity as saying, "The government is interested in strengthening partnerships with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and strengthening the energy file."

 

The minister touched on explaining the three axes of his visit, namely the launch of the (Iraqi-Saudi electrical interconnection) project, and the completion of the partnership project with ACWA Power to install a 1,000 MW solar power plant, in addition to benefiting from the Saudi experience by installing smart meters and reducing wasted energy. .

 

Ali pointed out that "it was agreed to form a joint working group to be concerned with the development of unified subscribers."

 

In turn, Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman said: "The Iraqi visit has great connotations and we find it a good and fruitful opportunity to expand the horizons of cooperation and joint work between the two countries," noting that "His Majesty the King and the Crown Prince recommend twinning the Kingdom's projects with Baghdad in the energy sector."

 

He added, "We really support the development of Iraqi economic files, and we carefully monitor the renaissance and confident measures by working to diversify energy sources and exploit gas fields."

Minister Al-Ghurairy stressed, "During the meeting, the Iraqi government's keenness to open new horizons for economic and commercial cooperation and the development of intra-trade with the Saudi side," noting that "during the meeting, aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries were also reviewed, while inviting the Saudi side to actively participate in the Baghdad exhibition session." upcoming international.
