Resources for Furat News: Türkiye has begun to increase the releases of the Tigris and an improvement in the water situation

{Local: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Water Resources announced that Turkey started six days ago to increase water releases to Al-Iraq via the Tigris River.

"Since the 23rd of this month, Turkey has started to increase water releases to the Tigris River at a rate of 400 cubic meters per second," ministry spokesman Khaled Shamal told the Euphrates News Agency.
And he indicated, "The increase of these releases with the rain waves that the country witnessed during the past two days, there will be positive signs of an improvement in the water situation, as the recent rains, with the increase in water releases, raised the river levels."
It is noteworthy that the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced on March 21, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, that his country "decided to increase the amount of water flowing from the Tigris River as much as possible for a period of one month in order to alleviate the distress of Iraq."
Al-Sudani wrote in a tweet on March 22 on the occasion of World Water Day: "We are working to secure Iraq's shares of its right to water through dialogues and agreements, and what was achieved in our visit to neighboring Turkey and the announcement of an increase in the flows of the Tigris waters is an example of the government's success."

  Baghdad: morning

Yesterday, Monday, the Ministry of Water Resources reported that Turkey had begun to increase water flows to the Tigris River, in implementation of the agreement reached last month, during the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to Turkey, indicating that the increase in Turkish flows amounts to twice the amount that was previously sent to Iraq. By Ankara, i.e. 1500 cubic meters per second.

Khaled Shamal, a spokesman for the Ministry of Water Resources, said in a statement, "Turkey has actually launched a plan to double the amount of water flowing into Iraq through the Tigris River, in implementation of the agreement with the Turkish side, by 1,500 cubic meters per second, and this agreement will be valid for a month." One that can be extended, especially since dialogues and discussions between Baghdad and Ankara are continuing to resolve this file in a fair and final manner.

And Shamal said, "The Turkish side committed itself to the issue of increasing water releases, and actually started this matter, which greatly contributed to raising the water level inside the Tigris River, and this matter will contribute to the success of the agricultural plan, as well as reviving the marshes, and increasing the Iraqi strategic stock."

He stressed that "the current Iraqi government is really determined to resolve the water file with neighboring countries, to ensure a fair share for Iraq, and there is a new round of negotiations that will be with the Turkish side as well as the Iranian side, and there are understandings and issues of common interests to resolve this file, according to good neighborliness, and according to the laws." international and international.
