US State Department message on the occasion of Nowruz: We will continue to stand by the Iranian people

Baghdad - people

US President, Joe Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and US Assistant Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman, congratulated Nowruz in separate messages. Biden described Nowruz as a reminder of hope in the darkest of times, and Blinken and Sherman affirmed that their countries stand with the Iranian people.

In a short message on the occasion of Nowruz, the President of the United States said that this is a festival that has existed for thousands of years and is celebrated by millions of people around the world. He said that Nowruz is the beginning of a new year, reminding us of the hope that awaits us even in difficult times.

"We reiterate our commitment: The United States will continue to stand up for your human rights and support you as you pursue a brighter future," Anthony Blinken said in his Nowruz congratulatory message, noting the regime's "brutal crackdown" on Iranian protesters.

In a video message referring to the Iranians' uprising against the regime in 1401 Shamsi, US Assistant Secretary of State Wendy Sherman hailed the Iranian people's courage as incredible.

“Last year, the protests led by women and girls that began with the tragic and unjustified death of Mahsa Amini have inspired people all over the world. Their message was simple and powerful: women, life, freedom,” Sherman said.

Referring to the Iranian regime's suppression of the protests, the US Assistant Secretary of State said, "Instead of listening to their demands, the Iranian regime decided to resort to brutal and violent suppression of peaceful demonstrators, cutting off and censoring the Internet, and arresting tens of thousands of Iranian citizens."

She added that families all over Iran miss their loved ones at the Haft Sin table. Iranian businessmen have seen their jobs and livelihoods destroyed."

Referring to the sanctions imposed by the United States on the Iranian regime due to the suppression of the demonstrators, this senior official in the Biden administration said: "In the United States of America, we are witnessing incredible courage from the Iranian people who are still standing firm despite threats, intimidation and violence."

Sherman called on the Iranian regime's leaders to "change their policy and listen to the plea of their fellow citizens. Immediately end mass arrests, sham trials, summary executions, detentions of journalists, and other human rights abuses."

At the end of this message, she emphasized: “At the beginning of the new year, we will continue to stand with the people of Iran, and for as long as necessary we will stand with women and girls, lawyers and journalists, athletes and cultural figures, with mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers who all want a promising future free of violence and oppression."

Meat has risen to unprecedented prices in Sulaymaniyah with the advent of Newroz and Ramadan

Baghdad - people

The city of Sulaymaniyah is witnessing an acute shortage of livestock meat, which has led to an unprecedented increase in its prices, with the advent of the month of Ramadan and the Newroz holidays.

The price of a kilo of minced meat reached 22 thousand dinars today and yesterday in Sulaymaniyah, while the price of a kilo of veal reached 20 thousand dinars, according to the butcher shops and the sale of meat.

Speculation indicated a further rise in the coming days, reaching 25,000 dinars, in the event that the current demand continues with the supply remaining the same or declining further, according to the butcher shop.

Earlier, the Director of Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Firas Sadiq, explained the reasons for the recent rise in chicken prices in the market.

Sadiq said in a statement to Kurdish media outlets, followed by "NAS" (March 9, 2023), that "several reasons led to the increase in chicken prices. Perhaps the most prominent of which is that we are now in the Newroz holiday and the month of Ramadan is approaching, which has increased the demand for chicken, especially now that the price of meat has increased." red."

He explained, "The price of chicken meat was not high, but citizens have been buying chicken cheaply for two years."

And the Director of Livestock indicated that "the cost of producing a kilo of chicken in poultry farms in normal circumstances ranges between 2,600 and 2,650 dinars, but now the production price is 2,800 dinars."

He continued, "Selling a kilogram of chicken for less than three thousand dinars harms the owners of poultry farms, affects the continuity of their work, and affects the unemployment rate."

He added, "Some poultry farmers suffered losses and bankruptcy due to cheap licenses, which prevented some of them from raising new poultry this season. This led to a shortage of products, due to low supply and high demand, which led to an increase in prices in the market."
