BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Following is a summary of news reports posted until 10:00 p.m. Baghdad local time Monday – August 30:

*Politics:

ARBIL - Jordanian Minister of Trade and Industry will arrive in Arbil on Tuesday (Aug. 30) within an official visit to the region, chairman of the foreign relations department of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said on Monday.

BAGHDAD - U.S. President Barack Obama will announce on Tuesday the end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq.

BAGHDAD - Deputy Prime Minister Rafia al-Issawi on Monday called for activating the strategic agreements signed between Iraq and the United States in economic and scientific fields, according to a statement of his office.

BAGHDAD - U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden arrived in Baghdad on Monday, according to al-Hurra satellite channel.

ARBIL - Head of al-Iraqiya List, Iyad Allawi, arrived in Arbil on Monday to meet President of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Massoud Barzani, according to the president’s media advisor.

*Security:

KIRKUK - Police forces arrested on Monday five persons, including a leader of Islamic State of Iraq armed group, a senior police officer said.

BAGHDAD - One civilian was killed and three others were wounded in a sticky bomb explosion in northern Baghdad, a security source said on Monday.

NINEWA - Army forces killed on Monday a suicide bomber in eastern Talafar, a security source said.

BASRA - Police forces arrested on Monday 15 wanted men and defused an explosive charge in separate areas in Basra, a police source said.

*Economy:

BASRA - Dutch Ambassador expressed on Monday his country’s companies’ desire to implement projects in Basra, according to a media source.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi Stock Exchange (ISX) index decreased by 0.2% to close at 91.5 points as rates of shares of 11 out of a total 25 traded firms went down on Monday.

KARBALA - A UAE company has agreed to establish a residential and commercial compound in Karbala, chairman of the Karbala council said on Monday.
