yota691 Posted January 4, 2022 Report Share Posted January 4, 2022 Iraq receives calls to establish industrial cities Tuesday 04 January 2022 155 Baghdad: Shatha Al-Janabi Iraq has received calls from Arab and regional countries to establish new industrial cities, while the Ministry of Industry and Minerals has confirmed that it has reached advanced stages for the implementation of the economic city with the Jordanian side. The Director of the Industrial Cities Authority in the ministry, Hamid Awad Muhammad, told Al-Sabah: "There are calls from regional and Arab countries to establish new industrial cities, such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria and Turkey." He pointed out that "meetings were held with delegations of most of those countries during the past two weeks at the Industrial Cities Conference held in Syria to discuss this matter, while the meeting took place with Turkey to establish an economic city in northern Iraq on the border separating the two countries." With regard to the economic city with Jordan, Muhammad confirmed, "All procedures are completed and approvals are obtained from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to allocate the land. Currently, the authority is preparing for the feasibility study phase and preparing the basic designs for the city by an international organization to be announced for development by contracting with international, international and regional companies, and transforming the area." He pointed to "the agreement with Iraqi businessmen and industrialists residing in Jordan who own a large number of factories in Amman in order to obtain support and investment in the city from them, in addition to the participation of Jordanian industrialists." Muhammad explained that "the economic city between Iraq and Jordan is an industrial development city and a free zone for trade exchange, and its area on the Iraqi side is 4800 dunams and the same on the Jordanian side." During the current year, Iraq announced an agreement with Jordan to start constructing a joint industrial city on the borders of the two countries near the Trebil land crossing. The two countries signed agreements in various fields, including bilateral and tripartite ones, in addition to Egypt, during summit conferences held between the three countries.
