In the document.. Iraq officially joins the Paris Agreement and deposits its instrument

{Local: Al Furat News} A government source said that Iraq officially joined, today, Tuesday, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Iraq deposited the instrument of accession.

On January 13, 2021, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, signed Iraq's accession to the Paris Climate Agreement announced in 2015, aimed at reducing emissions around the world.

The Paris Climate Agreement is the first comprehensive international agreement on climate protection, which was reached in December 2015 in Paris, after lengthy negotiations between representatives of 195 countries. The treaty obligates the signatory countries to contain the rate of global warming.

In April 2016, 190 countries signed the agreement, also known as COP21.

The Paris Agreement aims to significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, limit the global temperature increase in this century to less than two degrees Celsius, and intensify efforts to reduce it to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
