Two of the Biggest Gun Control Myths Debunked

Two of the Biggest Gun Control Myths Debunked

Gun control is not about safety, common sense or saving American lives -- it's about "control."

That's the argument Glenn Beck made Tuesday night on TheBlaze TV while discussing his new book "Control," which was released in bookstores nationwide on Tuesday.

The book, which Beck says he streamlined following the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, seeks to dispel all the myths anti-gun advocates use disarm the Second Amendment and eventually, if they have their way, the American people.

Glenn Beck Control

Here are two of the biggest gun control myths found in "Control" (though there are many more in the book):

1. More Guns Mean More Crime

In reality, an extensive 2004 report by the National Academy of Science was not able to identify a single gun control regulation that actually reduces violent crime, suicides or accidents, Beck said. The NAS panel reviewed 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publication and some of its own empirical work on firearms.

One of the main pillars of the gun control argument is the claim that more gun laws will make Americans safer. Because the facts do not support such a claim, one would think the scales would be tipped in favor of gun rights.

A University of Pennsylvania study also determined that the 1994 "assault weapons" ban did little to reduce violence while in effect.

2. Strict Gun Control Works in Other Countries

Anti-gun advocates like CNN's Piers Morgan routinely claim strict gun control has been very effective in other countries like Great Britain and Japan, however, the numbers tell a slightly different story.

Beck pointed out that within a decade after England practically banned all firearms in 1997, crime with handguns had doubled, armed street gangs caused British police to start carry guns and the country still experienced a mass shooting. Additionally, the homicide rate rose dramatically for seven years after the ban -- from 1.1 per 100,000 to 1.8 per 100,000.

Australia also enacted strict restrictions on firearms ownership following a mass shooting in 1996. The change in gun violence was so small that it was "statically irrelevant," Beck said.

On the other hand, Switzerland has the third highest gun ownership rate in the world and a murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000. The country's murder rate is well below Australia, the U.K. and Canada while its gun laws are less strict.

"More gun control doesn't mean less crime," Beck concluded. "More gun control just means more control."

You would think an American of Glenn Beck's caliper, interested in saving the republic, would give the information away.

It's not about "Control".......it's about "Control" through published and priced propaganda.  As always, just my opinion.

Thanks for the post carlablum. Beck's right, although, he's only just reaffirming what most people with common sense and a little research already know.

Gun Control is like cutting off the horns of the Gazelle, it only helps the Leopards.

It's like wiping before you poop, it doesn't make sense. -Larry the Cable Guy

Lets try this again,

This post is not on if one should buy a book.  These two facts caught my eye so I have made it easier for some folks to read without confusion.

Gun Control is a GOOD THING.

I went to renew my CCL the other week and there was a girl there doing the same. She badly needed more GUN CONTROL. Her shots were all over the range, not just the target. Of course, I am advocating Gun Control - as in get your butt out there & practice. If you are a responsible gun owner and can not put all your rounds into the target, please get out there to the range and practice, practice, practice.

Why wouldn't he sell his book.

Why wouldn't he want his book on the best seller list

Thats what every author wants is to write a best selling book.

Obama has written several books.

I don't see any of them offered for free.

The post that carla placed has nothing to do with selling books

But everything to do with the idea that honest law biding citizens

Should be made to pay a price for a lawless group individuals that want to use firearms in a negative way.

That by stripping said honest citizen the results are more crime and killings on the streets .

I do understand shabs that you back this president that you voted for.

But as intelligent as you seem to be. Sometimes I think you back him because of what he stands for.

THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT

In my heart I truly prayed that this president . The first black president would actually make a difference and that

his people the black people would have a man that they could look at and say YES!!  We did it . Only if marten luther was here to see the dream

come true. BUT instead they got Obama a half white wanna be muslim who would rather lie then tell the truth with a socialist agenda.

Eventually shabs you gotta call it what it is.

I think you and I have a pretty good relationship Dog.  We box once in a while, but usually we allow the other to his opinion without much backlash.  I agree with a lot of what you just posted.......but I will not agree with the MUSLIM comment.  You are above that brother.  I have no problem saying Obama has failed on many issues.......as have all presidents before him.  The nature of the beast is to question those in charge...."What have you done for me lately".  I have never in my life seen this kind of divide in the American people.  Some want to say Obama caused it.......in a sense I believe that is the case, but not because of his policies, as much as the color of his skin.  Now I know I am going to get negged to hell and back, but that is how I feel.  I know the race card is taboo here.....and it makes me wonder why.  The answer is because there is no defense for a racist, other than to redirect or deny.  I'm sure the majority are just ticked because he is a liberal Democrat, but to think there are not people here that hate him for a more insidious reason is naive, in my view.  As to the original topic......Glenn Beck is all about Glenn Beck.  He is a living cartoon character with zero credibility.  He prays on those who are convinced our world is set to implode.  He works them into a frenzy for ratings.....then he says something beyond stupid....gets his hand slapped, lays low for a while.....and then starts the process all over again.  This is me, Shabs....calling it as it is.   :peace:

Shabs you have my utmost respect and have for a long time. For me Its not about muslims . I got nothing against the muslim religion .

But if you are the type of person that would hide that because of political reasons you aint much of a man in my opinion.

And his skin color means nothing to me shabs. I have been color blind my whole life. To me  people are people . Cultures and tradition may vary but we all

laugh , cry , hate ,  hurt, and bleed the same. But yes racism its out there in abundance and it comes from both sides Black as well as white.  Its a shame

I have 15 grandchidren here are 2 of them .

This is what I teach in my clan

Love

Those are some good looking grandkids Dog.  My one and only son has not landed himself a sweetie as of yet, but has been close a couple times.  To say I don't push him in that direction would be an understatement.  I know I shouldn't, but I want to still be young enough to yell at the refs during a grandchild's ball game without being dismissed as "Oh, that's just Grandpa".  I want to be able to teach them my good and some bad habits and then send them home to their folks for a little payback.    :D   Anyway my friend, I hope you know you also have my utmost respect.   :peace:
