rapidwind
The ads are just that ads. There a plenty of plug-ins for the website to allow ads to pop up. Basically the ads are given a space and filled in by the third party, google is one of the biggest. The website has very little control in what pops up and the database will put there what it think you will want to click on. Safe or not, hard to tell. Can always open a new window and research the company to see what others have said about it.
