also just thought of this. They could also drop the 3 zeros and RV at say $2.5 or $3 from the get go. That way your $25,000 note that has a value of $21.50 USD now when truned in will get you back $62.50 in smaller denoms. So they get down to 25 billion dinars and the dinar has gone up double! With what they have in reserves for backing they could do that very easy.

First let me give a shout out to popo24 this thought came from one of his post. What has people so up in arms is the statement that they are dropping 3 zeros. Do they mean dropping it from the currency(lop) or do they mean dropping it from the exchange rate?(RV).......or are they going to do both at the same time? There is over 25,000,000,000,000.00 (25 trillion) in circulation today. If they drop 3 zeros there will be 25,000,000,000.00 (25billion) much more in-line with what other countries have in circulation today. Now the other camp RV the rate is .00086 if you drop 3 zeros here you got .86 so a new smaller denom lets say a 25 note will have a value of $21.50 USD the same as a 25,000 note does right now. Remember this they said that the people are having to carry around too much money right now. You know how much money they would have to carry around if you turned in a 25,000 note and they gave you back 25,000 in 20 dinar notes..........you think they need wheelbarrows now! They are not going to turn 1 note into 1,240 notes that is opposite of what they are trying to do if you really think about it. That is why both camps just may be right they might be dropping 3 zeros off the currency and the exchange rate at the same time. The article said that they will be taking the higher denomes in until the end of the year. Now after 2010 after they get all the bills in they might be planing on another RV like 2.50 to 3.50. Again this is all just a guess but man does all that fit like a glove.....again thanks popo24.

You are 100% right. I have not said one word in chat the last two days about the Dinar.......nor will I again and that is very sad. Debate is what makes the world spin. You are right on the nose about some of the mods too. I would expect fairness but you don't get it with some. There is one who just today posted on another thread that if you do not post positive you should just sell all your dinar!.....Now that is really sad. But there are some great mods too. I would like to know what is so negative about doubling or tripling your investment?

You are right to a point. I think they are dropping 3 Zeros from the currency that they have in cir right now and going to RV at the same time to the lower denoms. So that way they get there trillions in cir down to billions. I think they plan on an even swap in value of old and new.......so no one loses money and no one gains any. Now over time I think you are right it could go to $3 and you triple your money!

You are 100% right this and the US taking bills out of cir are two very separate things people on here and obviously this Guy have no idea what redenomination means! Redenomination1. The process whereby a country's currency is re-calibrated. Certain currencies have been re-denominated a number of times over the last century for various reasons.

It will when they drop the 3 zeros. People got to understand they are dropping 3 zeros from the currency in cir right now. They are not dropping it from the new that will come out. So a 25000 with 3 zeros dropped will have the same buying power as a NEW 25 note...........it really is simple as that as the article says it is a Re-denomination of the currency.

if a 25 dinar = $21.37 that is a .85 exchange rate

Since no one (except a few) in chat want to here this I will post it here to give another interpretation to this article part by part "Mudhhir Muhammad Salih, a member of a Central Bank advisory panel, told RFI that a plan has been made to remove three zeros from the currency and phase out the current banknotes late this year." They plan on removing 3 Zeros and phase out.......not phase out then remove the zeros so now the 25,000 is now 25 dinar........next "Salih said by the end of 2010 the new banknotes will be fully introduced while the old banknotes will be gradually removed from circulation. He did not specify when the new notes would be issued." They will be gradually removed.....remember this "Both will be legal tender in Iraq until the old notes are completely withdrawn." That means both the larger 25k etc. and the new denoms will be in cir at the same time "Salih added that in 1990 the value of banknotes in circulation was about 25 billion Iraqi dinars but is currently some 25 trillion dinars." So what has to happen? He says there is 25 trillion in circulation now. So how do you get back to 25 billion.......you drop 3 zeros from the dinar and looks what happens.........you got 25 billion "He said he expects the currency change to go smoothly because of the decision to allow both the old and new banknotes to coexist," This is where people get lost. How can the coexist? Its easy. Lets say one of the new denoms is going to be a 25 dinar note. They have dropped 3 zeros on the existing dinar so now you still have a 25,000 dinar note and a 25 dinar note.......they will have the same buying power. A 25,000 dinar note will have the same buying power as a NEW 25 dinar note. Right now a 25,000 dinar note is worth $21.37 USD after they drop the three zeros from the currency you will have a NEW 25 dinar note what will be worth $21.37 USD. So they will coexist at the same value. A 25,000 dinar note will = a new 25 dinar note. As the 25,000 dinar notes come into the bank they will be replaced with a 25 dinar note........so gradually(key word) the larger bills will be taken out of circulation over time and replaces with the new denominations. They will coexist for a time. So what I think the article is saying is that they are dropping 3 zeros(to get to the 25 billion in circulation) and RVing the new dinar (25 dinar note is now worth $21.37) all at the same time. So the 1000 dinar coke every one is talking about will now be 1 dinar that you can use 1 dinar on. So what does this mean for the investor? 1) you want lose your money 2) you will not be a millionaire but it also means that the dinar could reach $2 or $3 USD very quickly if a 25 dinar note is worth $21.37 that means they have RVed it to .85 so you could still triple your investment Now this is just how I am reading what this article is saying. Could I be dead wrong? Absolutely!!!!! and I hope I am. But that is the way it reads to me. Now to grumpy and just about 99 % of you it read it a totally different. I have been with BoA since 1985 and I know my branch manager very very well. And I asked him if I had 5 million in foreign currency to exchange(did not even tell him it was dinar) what would they charge? He told ed me straight up with that much money nothing, Nada, zilch, zero!
