Yeah, I learned quickly after arriving why they call it rocket city. But despite all of the incoming, it's still my favorite. I have some friends at Fenty and a couple of transfers here that just came from there as well. I've never been to FOB Lagman actually, but I will definitely meet you at the Irish Pub in Dubai post RV. The food isn't too bad here either... but we get lots of incoming. I am going out on a limb here... but I am pretty sure that this was directed at me. I posted a "rumor" in the "rumors section" so hopefully someone that does bank with 5/3 could shed some light on what this third party story was talking about. I never insinuated that it had anything to do with an RV or anything. I was just looking for further information because I had not seen the e-mail myself. Well it seemed that the post worked, and within a short time a fellow member here who apparently did bank with 5/3 posted that actual e-mail. That was exactly what I was looking for and it proved this third party rumor that I had heard and asked about false. To me, this is exactly what the rumors section is for, to prove or disprove something someone had heard. It seems to me that it worked as advertised this time. As for you calling me stupid and telling me to get a life... I honestly don't believe I deserved that at all for the question that I had posed, especially since it had already been answered. Thank you for your response. This was only a rumor that I heard from a friend and the truth of it was brought to light by rjenlow, who had a copy of the actual e-mail.

Well I guess things get lost in translation. Thank you rjenlow for clearing that up. Seems like the e-mail just states alerts via e-mail and texts will be down. I appreciate the first hand information and I apologize for my bank story that turned into nothing.

Salerno is the best FOB I've been to in Afghanistan. I've been stationed in Kandahar, Bagram, Shank, and now Salerno.

Thanks for the nice replies. I also live in Kentucky (when I'm not here in Afghanistan), and there are plenty of 5/3 banks within 30 minutes of my house, but I bank with my local credit union so I am not privy to this information first hand. Hopefully there are some 5/3 bankers that will see this and post if it is an isolated incident or not.

Well, here goes nothing... I never thought that I would have a bank story, and to tell the truth, it is not my own. This story belongs to a friend of mine, who also holds IQD, but is not a member of this site. We are both here in Salerno, Afghanistan currently, and his other friend (also a IQD holder) is currently in Bagram. My friend's friend (I guess that makes this a third-party story) called him here today and told him that he got an e-mail from his bank today. This friend banks with 5/3 bank in Henderson County KY. The e-mail stated that they would be closed from October 31st until noon on November 2nd for system updates. I personally have never heard of a bank being closed and doing updates for 3 1/2 days. Maybe this means something, maybe it doesn't. I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there that may bank with 5/3 bank and have heard the same thing, or is this an isolated incident for this particular bank. Thank you.

I am a contractor and am currently in Afghanistan and I too get paid in USD, but I do have two friends who used to work here with me that went to work for another company in Abu Dabi, and they are paid in the local currency there.

No problem. They have the plus and minus buttons too close together anyway. I evened myself out. Hope to see you at the bank when this happens as well... I'll be the guy with the big smile on my face.

Not sure how to prove it for myself, I definitely do not have a picture of me buying my first stack of Dinar. I remember distinctly that it was July 2003 and I was deployed to Q-West Iraq. I bought my first stack in a rickety old plywood restaurant that the local nationals had set up on on the FoB I was on. I wasn't even sure why I was buying it at the time, but I do now and have purchased it quite a few times since then. I am in Afghanistan now and have been since Feb 2009. As soon as this RV's (soon I hope), it's my ticket back to the states.

Wow! It is certainly a coincidence that I got on and read this today. I wish you the best of luck easyrider, because it is not easy at all. I know... I am on hour 49 right now... not a juice fast though... nothing but water. I wanted to start out small and am shooting for 72 to 86 hours. Again, good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I appreciate your thanks Sonny1. I must admit that I am no longer in the service anymore. I was for 9 years and did 2 tours in Iraq, but for the last 3 years I have been a civilian contractor here in Afghanistan.

Hello DinarVets! I couldn't put off joining any longer, as this is the best site for Dinar information that I have found. I have been reading the posts on this site daily for about three months now and decided to join so that I could finally add to some of the discussions on here. I am sad to say that I cannot get my "verified" status right now because my Dinar is currently secured state-side with my wife while I am still in Afghanistan, but I assure you that I am an investor and have been since 2004. I do look forward to continuing this roller coaster ride with the rest of you (hopefully not too much longer) and pray daily that we will all see an RV soon!
