Darutho
While serving in Iraq in 2005 I purchased Dinar in 25,000 IQD notes. Is that still valid currency? I read of some changes/ re-denominations and just want to verify. I haven't really kept up with it as I was in physical rehab, college, etc. Thanks! Awesome site!

Here is a page from the CBI website noting the IQD denominations in circulation: Circulated Banknotes: In 2013 the Central Bank of Iraq has upgraded the circulated banknotes the series of 2003 which included graphic design and technical characters apart from the denomination of (50) dinar which has been withdrawn from circulation since 1st May 2015.The two series will remain legal tender alongside in circulation until the old are naturally worn out. In December 2015 Central Bank of Iraq has put into circulation the new issuance of 50000 dinar to accomplish the series of 2013. Issued in 2015 Value Front Back 50,000 IQD Front: Palm tree and water wheel Back: Marshes and map showing tigris river path Issued in 2013 Value Front Back 250 Dinar Front: Astrolabe Back: Minaret samarra 500 Dinar Front: Dokan dam Back: Lamassu 1,000 Dinar Front: Islamic Dinar Back: Al Mustansiriya School 5,000 Dinar Front: Geli Ali Beg Waterfall Back: Al-Ukhaidir Fortress 10,000 Dinar Front: Freedom monument Back: Hadba minaret 25,000 Dinar Front: Farming carrying a jar of water and agricultural tractor plowing field and Islamic dinars Back: Part of the Hammurabi obelisk Issued in 2003 Value Front Back 250 Dinar Front: Astrolabe Back: Minaret samarra 500 Dinar Front: Dokan dam Back: Lamassu 1,000 Dinar Front: Islamic Dinar Back: Al Mustansiriya School 5,000 Dinar Front: Geli Ali Beg Waterfall Back: Al-Ukhaidir Fortress 10,000 Dinar Front: Hassan bin al-Haytham Back: Hadba minaret 25,000 Dinar Front: Kurdish farmer carrying with wheat stalks and Islamic dinar Back: Part of the Hammurabi obelisk https://cbi.iq/page/89 Looks like You would have the 2003 Series from what You are saying. I have some 2003 Series 25,000 notes as well. You may want to check other websites for identification of specific security features to verify the notes are not counterfeit. The bone fide notes have been printed with an ink that contains ox blood so have a slight aroma to them. The 2003 Series 25,000 notes are still valid provided they are not counterfeit. Whoops! The images did not post when I submitted this post. The link will take You to the CBI webpage where You can view all the pictures of currency in circulation. Go Moola Nova! Darutho
Awesome answer! That's a lot of great info. Maybe I'll still get rich after all. Thank you. 1
ChuckFinley
You should be good. Even if they issue a new currency they are to coexist for a period of time. 1
Darutho
Thanks. It hit me that I could possibly have worthless dinar when it finally rv's. That would totally suck. Glad to know I'm good on it.
