US Congress delegation underscores the United States is keen to support Iraq in its war against terrorism

 

 

 

Search Parliament Speaker Salim al - Jubouri, the private office, Sunday, with a US congressional delegation led by Senator Robert Crocker and his accompanying delegation in the presence of the US ambassador to Iraq , Douglas Silliman security and political developments in Iraq. 

A statement by his office, he 'During the meeting , they reviewed bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, and ways of strengthening them to ensure the interests of both sides also discussed joint coordination in the face of Daesh terrorist, and the significant progress made by the security forces in the liberation of the city of Mosul, as well as the return of the file IDPs to their areas and the reconstruction of areas devastated by the fighting. '

Defense minister, head of Senate Committee on Foreign Relations

Iraqi Defense Minister Erfan Mahmoud Al-Hayyali received on Sunday Senator Bob Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and the US Ambassador in Baghdad Douglas Silliman.
 

During the meeting, they discussed means of boosting bilateral relations especially in the fields of training, arming and intelligence information.
 

They also discussed the launching of the military operation aiming to retake the right bank of the Mosul city and the US-led coalition's role in this crucial operation against ISIS terrorist group.
 

Meanwhile, the senator said that the US will provide Baghdad with all required support in order to retake the Mosul city as soon as possible.
 

Earlier today, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced Sunday the launch of a military operation to retake the western bank of Mosul from ISIS terrorist group.

 “We announce the start of a new phase in the operation, we are coming to Nineveh to liberate the western side of Mosul,” Abadi said in a brief televised address.

Iraqi air crafts have dropped millions of leaflets in western Mosul, calling on residents to get ready to welcome the Iraqi troops as they continue the siege on the militants.

The latest operation to free the city from the terrorists began on October 17. After months of fighting, the coalition managed to secure the right bank of the city last month. The densely-populated west bank of Mosul is now the operation's target.
