Tarsov mandate extended 1 October 2010 Iraq national census rescheduled (was Oct 2009) If you read the Iraq Important updates you will notice that I've added a few more listings. The Iraqi government (GOI) has just made an announcement that on 4-8 March there will be a government holiday. The holiday is to give the Iraqi's time to prepare for the special election, voting abroad, and the actual election day on March 7th as well as the following day. Considering all the preparations that are going on in the run up to the elections, it is inconceivable at this current time that a reval will occur with the Iraqi dinar currency before the elections. In my last posting on 21 Feb, I mentioned that no government salaries had been reduced for any government employees. The Ministry of Oil Hussain al-Shahristani, made statements that no employee will have reduced salaries. The Prime Minister, Maliki gave all government workers raises in the second quarter of 2009. Rumors of pay deductions are sometimes expected just before an election to discredit an Iraqi politician. The pay deduction rumor is not true. Just to give you an idea, the Iraqi Police salary was 5,000 Iraqi dinars and is now 65,000 Iraq dinars. In addition, the Ministry is still wanting to increase the pay of all Police and Security forces. The Ministry of Finance has made an announcement that the laborers will receive their bonus salary on 1 March. The security for the upcoming elections will be complex as the Interior Ministry will be dispatching 500,000 security forces and 14 Iraqi Army units. We can only be hopeful that the upgraded security measures will be successful in having a violent free Iraq election. Other upcoming Security measures will be, closure of sea, land and airports between 0000 on 7 March and 0500 8 March. I will add that there will be a vehicle ban which is a given as they typically do have one. The ban is to include motorcycles and animal carriages. The Independent Higher Electoral Commission (IHEC) has approved a total of 325 parliament seats. They include; 310 general seats, 8 for Christians, Ezidis, Shabak, Sab'iah and 7 national compensatory seats. The Vice President Abd al-Mahdi has stated that the IHEC has printed an additional 7 million ballots and the IHEC did not give an acceptable reason for doing this. LYNX
Hey Soldier..I agree having boots on the ground is a valuable asset to the forum and gladthat another site, takes the time and writes his postings. As far as the pay that SFMEDIC and FRank26, have said that the pay was cut and the another site has said it is not true...common sense would tell you that no politician wouldcut the pay of employees just right before an election. They would not commit electorial suicide.I could be wrong but its just common sense...If I was a bettin man ...My money would be on Mr. another site! zoomzoom
But it would not be a pay cut if purchasing power went up, in other word an rv

Soldier
The one thing on this post that has me guessing is. "The pay deduction rumor is not true. Just to give you an idea, the Iraqi Police salary was 5,000 Iraqi dinars and is now 65,000 Iraq dinars." My question is, Is this an monthly or annual salary.
terr
It will be interesting what takes place on the first of March, and elections, a week away. I for one will be glad when it is done.
NineLives
I'm going to say that it's a monthly salary. It's roughly about $50-$60 US money that they make a month. There's no way that it can be annually. The one thing on this post that has me guessing is. "The pay deduction rumor is not true. NineLives
I'm not going to say anything negative about any one individual. It's your money to put where ever you want but hopefully you'll be man/woman enough to retract your statement next week once you see that it was the another site who was right. I like my money & work hard for it so I'm going to opt to keep it in the another site bank. ;-)Unfortunately, you are just falling 'victim' to the latest dinar scam rumor. **Don't say anything now,....respond in a few days once you see that this latest rumor goes down the drain with all the past ones that never came true. If this is true, i would prolly be able to live like a king over there, since i would have about 5 years worth of salary already. I'm not saying this info is wrong because i really do not know what they make over there. Does anyone else have any examples of what the people make over there? sterns5048
thanks ninelives. Wow that just seems crazy to me. When people kept saying the people of Iraq were poor, i didn't really get the picture, but now i certainly do. Maybe we should all grab our $$ and go have a very long party in iraq for a while!! hoping not to get shot or bombed of coursse
NineLives
You're very welcome Sterns5048.It is more than crazy, it's shameless. So,.. for someone to say that they're going to lower it more is just ridiculous in my mind but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If we all sided with one view or opinion how much fun would that be or what a boring debate that would make. I understand what some are trying to say when they try to point out that an RV would balance it out but I stand firm in my intel/beliefs 'at this time' (not saying that my beliefs won't ever change) that there will be no up and coming RV and salary decrease at this time. Again, my opinion, I'm entitled, will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong. ;-)(But don't believe I will be) ;-)thanks ninelives. Wow that just seems crazy to me.
