Interesting chat. Thanks for posting it lgraham.

I wondered about the use of the credit card processors by the smaller stores too. The small mom and pop type merchants won't have that technology yet and right now they probably see no benefit of implementing it. Only when they see that they are losing money by not having a processing system will they get one.

One thing that I'm surprised hasn't been implemented yet which I was expecting at some point is for government workers to be paid via direct deposit only. Since government workers make up such a huge part of the work force that would force each worker to have a bank account in order to get paid and at the same time force a large part of the population to use banks which most average citizens have tended not to trust or use. The worker could then take the money out of their account via a debit card or via ATM.

I hear that there is concern about the Iraqi people not being able to know how to use the card but this doesn't concern me. If they find out this is the way to get money then they will learn how to use them ASAP. I have had clients who are low functioning and diagnosed with paranoid schizonphrenia along with other disabilties and they learned how to work their debit/ATM cards faster than I could show them.
